Favourite Patterns Friday, July 19, 2019, Issue 110: Summer knitting anyone?

Are you enjoying your summer so far? I am even though it has been hot, humid and just bit more wet than I like! It definitely makes it easy to sit back, relax and knit like Natalie did! Doesn't she look fabulous in her new shawl?

The pattern Natalie used is Mary Annarella's Rickroll Wrap. As she put it, "It took longer to sew 12 buttons on the shawl than it did to knit it, lol! This one is quite versatile and can be worn in several different ways."

It is a pretty-quick knit using fingering weight yarn where you work 2 triangle shawls--and seamlessly get an FO that is not shaped like one. The pattern has been updated to include a 4-Colour Fade as well as the original 3-Colour version which comes in a small and large version that is approximately 19(22.5)" deep, 43(49)" along the longer parallelogram edges.

Mary Annarella’s Rickroll worn as a cowl

Button the 2 angled edges together to wear as a cowl, drape it over your shoulders and secure with just a single button or button the angled edge to a straight edge and wear as a draped poncho. Watch Mary Annarella of Lyrical Knits' video showing several ways how to the wrap and where to place your buttons.

Enez Segal by Anne Regourd is free from today July 19th for one week!

Enez Segal by Anne Regourd is free from today (July 19th) for one week! This tee features a lace pattern, V neck which is lower in the back, and strap shoulder. These super cute little tank tops are crazy addictive and quick to make - Anne has 8 of them pictured! I know that I can no longer wear them fitted like this but add some A-line side shaping and it will look great even on me:) Knit it using linen or cotton such as Shibui Reed, Bergere de France Bigarelle, Navia Bummull or any summery fingering weight or even sport weight yarn.

Love Pecan by Karen Broz

Love Pecan by Karen Broz is a free pattern for a summer top with a basic circular yoke followed by an eyelet panel so easy to memorize after you separate the body from the sleeves. You can knit go on and on with the eyelet panel until you reach the length you want.

This cute little top is knit using fingering weight yarn and 3.5 mm (US 4) and 4.0 mm (US 6) needles or as required to get a gauge of 20 stitches and 27 rows = 4 inches in the round after blocking with the larger needles.

WIP's and FO's

I finished two projects this week that have been on my needles for awhile but that were not photogenic until after blocking.

I woven in the ends and sewn together the top of the straps on my Summer Commitment bag and blocked it!

On Sunday, I wove in the ends and sewed together the top of the straps on my Summer Commitment bag by Espace Tricot and blocked it. This one is a free pattern!

I modified my Summer Commitment bag so that I could attach a JUL Designs Forager handle! I followed the pattern until I got to the straps and also added a button and crocheted button loop.

Note that I hand wound my skeins of yarn. The jute works perfectly for this project but was very hard on the hands and needles because of the tight gauge and is not a quick knit because of this. I would NOT recommend wood or bamboo needles- they might snap! The bag curls a lot so I could not take good progress pics but the finished bag was worth every bit of my time!

My finished Denis by Elizabeth Smith knit using Euroflax Sport in Eggplant

I finished my Denis by Elizabeth Smith! I knit mine using using LoftyFibre Euroflax Sport, a sport weight yarn so the gauge looks much looser with bigger eyelets. I am not a fan of knitting with needles that are bigger than the recommended needle size because I feel awkward knitting with them but I do like the finished top!

My Denis washed up great (in the washing machine on gentle) and dried in the drier for about 15 minutes before laying flat to dry. The drier had stopped when I went to get it at 15 minutes so I am not sure how long.

Monday, I stayed home, cast on a new project and sat put on the deck to enjoy the day!

I cast on Nordiska by Caitlin Hunter!

I cast on Nordiska by Caitlin Hunter using Berroco Remix Light even though I already have used this yarn before for the shop but I really wanted to knit a summer version!

I am going to knit the body of my Nordiska by Caitlin Hunter longer than the 1 inch before the colourwork!
