Free Pattern Fridays - Friday, June 23, 2017: Hello Summer!!!

seraines' rendition of Waiting For Rain by Sylvia McFadden

The first day of summer was only a few days ago but it seems like it has been with us for awhile! It has really been hot and although it appears we will get lots of rain today, my lawn and garden needs it!

I can't believe that next weekend is Canada Day!! I have handmade wooden shawl sticks with a maple leaf decoration. Each stick is handcrafted by Gary Fleischauer of Nature's Wonders at his home in Hanover in celebration of Canada's 150th Birthday.

FAVORITES

Some of my favorites are not necessarily free! The Barnstable Shawl designed by Lisa Hannes for Malabrigo to be knit with Dos Tierras has caught my eye with its garter stitch from the smallest point in a solid color to its gorgeous two-color mosaic segment to create this unique shawl. The shawl as shown was knit using 2 skeins of Dos Tierras in Archangel and 1 skein of Pearl.

Summer Flies by Donna Griffin is a lovely lacy summer shawl is the perfect accessory to cover bare shoulders on a breezy summer evening. The shawl I have pictured is GirlinGrey's version but this week, we were oohing and aweing over Carola's sister's version that was gifted to her!

Summer's End by Heather Malloy

is a "versatile lace cardigan, worked from the bottom up with minimal seaming. Perfect for layering on those cooler nights as summer winds to a close. Dress it up with a flirty skirt, or go casual with a t-shirt and jeans." It is knit using an aram/worsted weight yarn with a gauge of 18 stitches and 24 rows to 4 inches using 4.0 mm and 5.0 mm (US 6 and 8) needles. Most of the projects on Ravelry have been knit as a fall/winter cardigan but I can see it as a summer cardi in linen as knit up by cantknitenuff did. Although she says that she didn't enjoy knitting with linen, the end result is beautiful and linen always softens up every time you wash it!

The Martinmas Shawl by Sarah B. Abram of sarahbearcrafts is a shawl that is first knit bottom up and then sideways with an easy-to-memorize lace repeat, it goes a lot faster than you would think it would take!

WIPS

Last summer, I knit 2 tank tops a summer cardigan and a summer top! The cardigan while beautiful, I am sad to say lives on my mannequin since it is fitted and I put on too much weight to feel comfortable wearing it. The tank tops, on the other hand get plenty of wear:) My two wips are coming along nicely and I hope to be able to wear them soon!

The Trapezoid Tee is blocking - I'll probably seam it together some time today and then all that will be left is the neckband and the armhole bands...Shouldn't take too long now!

My Gemstone now measures 6" from the underarm so 8.5" to go before the 2x2 ribbing so only a few more inches since last week. I am using a fingering weight yarn and 3.5 mm needles which will be much lighter than most of the cardis that I knit and should be wearable year round.
