Free Pattern Fridays - Friday, June 30, 2017: Canada 150

Happy Canada 150 - Holiday Hours and Free Pattern Friday

Canada celebrates its 150th birthday! This year is filled with planned activities designed to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canada, also known as the 150th anniversary of Confederation.

The shop is closed Saturday (July 1, 2017) in honor of Canada Day.

The maple leaf has always been one of things that comes to mind when we think of Canada. Natalia @ Elfmoda's Maple Leaf Knit Shawl, while not a free pattern is a beautiful shawl that was inspired by the beautiful maple tree leaves so prevalent in the fall, this shawl will be a stunning addition to your autumn wardrobe. She also has a crocheted version Maple Leaf Crochet Shawl.

Canada Day Wreath

Canada Day Wreath  by Amanda Julien from stitched pixels is a pattern available for free to make a unique and colorful wreath for the holiday to spruce up your front door.

FREE PATTERNS

I happen to have a lot of patterns favorited on both Ravelry and Pinterest since I seem to spend a lot of time checking out whatever happens to be new or recommended. Baby patterns are always special and tend to be inspire us to knit up for our grandchildren, children or as gifts. Cardigans especially are a favorites baby accessory. You can be button them up to use like a sweater in the winter, or quickly drape them over the shoulders on a chilly summer evening.

Trellis by Britta Stolfus Rueschhoff for knitty.com

Trellis by Britta Stolfus Rueschhoff for knitty.com. was designed with the garden as inspiration so includes trellis cables and seed stitch borders. She wanted a baby sweater design to wow the mommies but a pattern that was easy to memorize and execute. It is a pattern that works equally well for a boy or a girl depending on the color of yarn chosen.

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND THURSDAY EVENING KNIT-ALONGS

The Spring/Summer Garment KAL is drawing to a close...not many of you joined in for this one by posting that you are joining in (there is no formal registration) to the on the Ravelry group so I can't include you in the draw June 30th unless you post an FO (finished object) to the Sue2knits and Yarn Group Spring/Summer Garment FO thread. I will post the winner and FO's in another post next week!

You can participate in the Knit-Alongs online or in the shop. You can use your yarn stash or purchase yarn from the shop.

The Adult Surprise Jacket Knit-Along starts July 1, 2017. Many of you have already purchased the pattern and swatched. Mattedcat will be away for part of it so started hers early! Nadine wants to cast the Trapezoid Tee as her Knit-Along.

WIPS

My Trapezoid Tee WIP is now an FO!! For those who like me didn't know the meaning of knitting terms until recently, a WIP is a work in progress and an FO is a finished object:) I had finished the whole body but not the neckband and armhole bands when I finished my 5th skein of yarn...Do I start another skein or find something in my leftover yarn stash that might work? I did in the end decide to start another skein and I love how it turned out. The Trapezoid Tee is worked from the bottom up in one long piece and seamed together at the sides, featuring a stunning panel of crochet-look lace at the back, which widens to create a subtle A-line shape. Minimal shaping is used at the neckline only, making this a wonderful first garment for beginners looking to get their feet wet with a bit of lace.

My Gemstone has grown but I still need at least 2 more inches before I work the ribbed hem. I am thrilled with it so far! Gemstone is in Veera's words "gem of a cardigan goes with almost anything and works on every occasion: from formal office to cozy evening at home to a fun night out!" It is worked from the top down and features stunning cable details.
