Free Pattern Fridays - Justyna Lorkowska

Free Pattern Fridays - Justyna Lorkowska

Friday, May 5, 2017

Like most of us yarnies, I have a lot of designers who I follow! One of them is Justyna Lorkowska of Lete's Knits who lives in Poland with her husband, two kids and two cats. Her husband, Martin is now just as involved since he decided to launch Martin's Lab, Hand Dyed Yarn and Fibre.

One of Justyna's free patters is Close To You, which in her words:

One day, while I was planning my trip to a yarn festival, my husband asked me to get him some undyed yarn while there. “Hope he doesn’t destroy it”, I thought. You know… all that money could be spent at some booth with pretty skeins. I did get him the yarn in the end. And he started studying a lot about acid dyes and temperature, and pH levels (he’s a nerd!)… and then he showed me his creations.

I immediately fell in love and was slightly shocked to see that my own husband can dye yarn. Soon the flat became flooded with colorful skeins and he created his own Martin’s Lab Yarn.
(How cool is that?)

“Why are you doing that?”, I asked.
“To be close to you”, he replied.

…and this is how this shawl was born.

Designed to use just one skein (or more, it’s easy to adjust) of any gorgeous handpainted yarn to make a shawlette for someone who’s close to you too!

    Awww <3

I found this shawl at Love Yarn Madrid, in Martin's shop and immediately fell in love with it - but I didn't know the story - this just makes me want to knit it even more!

Oh no! I do agree that some stitches that are used are awkward to do and P2tog through the back loop is one of them! We do persevere and knit on especially when we are knitting for a loved one! Please send me or post a photo of your great grandson wearing it! I would love to see it!

Hi there: I have just finished making the toddler hat with earflaps and really liked the pattern - except for the P2 tog. through back of loop! If I never have to do another I'll be very happy. I'm sure they added interest but they certainly gave my old fingers a workout (I'm 71)I'm really hoping after completing the pattern that it fits my great grandson.Keep up the excellent work and do try to be kind to old hands. Love this pattern, it's been in my favourites too. The lace edge reminds me of that on the Workday Scarf I just finished a little while ago.
