Friday, April 24, 2020, Issue 145: Breathe and Hope!

This weekend would have been when the third annual Local Yarn Store Day would have happened! As you know, LYS Day was canceled due to the social distancing necessity. This is the "Breathe and Hope" shawl which Casapinka designed for LYS Day 2020. The name of it is a mantra of hers right now and I imagine some of you can relate.

Casapinka decided to go ahead and do a modified version of LYS Day for April 25 so many LYS including me came up with Kits!

Casapinka’s Breathe and Hope Shawl pattern is free with a kit or 2 skeins of 100g fingering weight yarn purchase April 24 until midnight April 26, 2020

Casapinka’s Breathe and Hope Shawl pattern is free with a kit or 2 skeins of 100g fingering weight yarn purchase April 24 until midnight April 26, 2020. The Discount Codes will be emailed by me for you to use on Ravelry when you purchase the pattern. If you have any problems with your code, please contact me or the LYS you purchased your Kit from and not Casapinka. Please use the code as soon as you get it and not when you pick up or receive your kit!

Rewilding Shawl by Helen Stewart of Curious Handmade

Rewilding Shawl by Helen Stewart of Curious Handmade (not free) was designed using the stunning Meadow from The Fibre Co, the generous retreat sponsor for the Autumn 2018 Curious Handmade Country House Retreat. Helen says, "This is an incredibly luxurious yarn, a blend of merino, baby llama, silk, and linen. It creates a very sophisticated, drapey fabric, but the little flecks running through the yarn give it a gently rustic, untamed character, just perfect for this design."

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
137cm (54”) across top edge
102cm (40”) across cast off end

Meadow is a lovely heavy laceweight blend of four unique, luxurious fibers. The unique blend of fibers are spun and then kettle dyed, and the different way the fibers absorb the dye creates a beautiful depth of color with subtle heathered tones. A 2-ply yarn, it is slightly heavier than "typical" laceweight and is perfect for shawls and scarves as well as sweaters.

  • 40% merino, 25% baby llama, 20% silk, 15% linen
  • 498 m / 545 yds/100 gram skein
  • 32-36 sts = 4" (10 cm)
  • 2.25 - 3.25 mm (US 1-3) needle
  • Hand Wash, Dry Flat

Any of these shawls would be a great project as a jumping off point for your spring knitting (or summer knitting) project!

My City Limits by Tanis Lavallee has grown since last Friday but not by much if you saw my Instagram post earlier this week!

My City Limits by Tanis Lavallee has grown since last Friday but not by much if you saw my Instagram post earlier this week! I am partway through the fifth stripe of nine for the colours that I am using. The finished City Limits can be worn with the knit side or the purl side as the right side. I like the purl side!

Kits are available HERE to include the Koigu Fade Kit. You will need to choose your Drops Kid Silk to hold double with it. The pattern shows two strands of fingering by itself or held with a strand of mohair (three strands total) but I was able to get gauge using one strand of fingering and one strand of mohair.

Working on the bind off of the hem while waiting at the grocery store, with the front bands finished and part of a sleeve! Antonia by Cocoknits using Berroco Elba.

On Tuesday, I had to wait almost an hour for a grocery order that was supposed to be ready for pick up for 7 pm the night before. Good thing I had my knitting with me as usual so I sat and bound off my Antonia cardigan by Cocoknits.

I definitely can't catch the colour when it is overcast outside. I never cut the yarn off after binding off a hem but turn and continue using the yarn to pick up and knit the front bands. I do still have extra ends to weave in any way because I finished the donut of yarn on the row before the bind off! Instead of standard 1x1 rib, I decided on using twisted rib instead for 4' instead of 3. I also worked my front bands with twisted rib.
