Friday, January 17, 2020, Issue 130: What is on your needles?

Cold and blustery weather doesn't get us down!!! Let's snuggle in and get knitting because there is no better time than now! Cozy shawls like the one Angela is wearing are wonderful wrapped around us like a big hug!

Angela knit the one she is wearing with three colours of ZenYarnGarden Serenity 20, a soft superwash merino with a generous 20% of luxurious cashmere.

I love Angela's colour combination!

What is cozier than a free pullover knit with rustic Lettlopi, a classic worsted weight yarn great for Icelandic-style sweaters. Riddari by Védís Jónsdóttir is a great one with over 3200 projects that have been posted as projects on Ravelry!

Rounds begin on left side of body while on the yoke, rounds begin on the left side of back at the joining of body and sleeve. Sizes included are from XS up yo XXL with a gauge of 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch with 4.5 mm (US 7) needles.

Another of my favourite cozy and free patterns is Rug by Junko Okamoto. This is valentinasknits’ Rug Sweater knit with Garnstudio Drops Air in Pearl Grey and Brick Red.

EspaceTricot knit theirs using Istex Alafosslopi and I seriously want to break up one the two remaining Jolaskjol (Christmas Tree skirt) kits just so I can use the white from the kits!

Love my Oraefi by G. Dagbjort Guamundsdottir

Öræfi by G. Dagbjört Guðmundsdóttir is one of my favourites but not free! I wanted to knit it as soon as I first saw it on the Lopi website! I knit one and so did my sister Mary! It is a simple colourwork pattern yet makes your sweater look impressive. I have one kit left in the original colours but this can be knit in and two colours with high contrast.

Although I have shown the above projects knit using the rustic Icelandic Istex LettLopi yarn, you can substitute Cascade 220 Heathers, Berroco Ultra Alpaca, Navia Faroese Sock or Navia Trio for wooly but softer yarn.

On my needles are Nalu Mitts by Leila Raven (free Ravelry Download)

On my needles are Nalu Mitts by Leila Raven (free Ravelry Download). This fingerless mitt pattern showcases a traveling twisted-stitch wave flanked by reverse stockinette and seed stitch. I knit these using less than one skein of Cascade 220 Sport in Silver Gray. Nalu Kits are avaiable but if you want one of the other colours available in this yarn let me know. Kits include a reusable bag.

I am now finished up to the upper ribbing of the second mitt...then both thumbs!

Off my needles is tincanknits Clayoquot Toque knit as a class sample!

Off my needles is the free tincanknits Clayoquot Toque knit as a class sample! I knit it using the yarn left from the vests that I knit for my grandsons and from my Barnstable Shawl. I didn't block or sew in the ends so that Kathy can use it for class demonstrations.

Progress on my Nightshift by Andrea Mowry yesterday morning!

Progress on my Nightshift by Andrea Mowry yesterday morning! I didn't take another photo but I am almost finished section 4. After a couple of colour swatches, these are the three colours that I settled on. I am happy to say that I love how it looks already! Join us in our new upcoming Wednesday Afternoon class where we will knit this shawl with Kathy as the teacher!

KNIT GROUP AND GALLERY

The current Knit-Alongs are the Butterfly / Papillon KAL and the Knit Any Shawl KAL and the Knit Your Project: the everlasting knit-along to encourage and support you to knit is running from January 1 until March 31st. Don't forget to post your finished projects so that you will be included in our quarterly draw!

NEW will be a Wednesday afternoon Pre-Pay Knit-Along Class as well with Kathy Egypt as the teacher from 1 to 3 pm at least until the end of April. Andrea Mowry's Nightshift or The Shift is what we will start with. After that everyone signed up can help choose what project to do next, another mosaic knitting shawl such as the Cascadial Wrap, Lunae or Mosaic Mania.

Now...for the winner of the December 31st draw! Congratulations Jocelyne or jocblais!

Jocelyne came in for a Turtle Dove II Kit and to pick up her draw prize - a Sheep Breeds Pouch that I ordered from Ravelry Merchandise! Perfect to use for the magic loop sock class she is taking next month.

Jocelyne came in to purchase a Turtle Dove II Kit and to pick up her draw prize - a Sheep Breeds Pouch that I ordered from Ravelry Merchandise! Perfect to use for the magic loop sock class she is taking next month. Sorry but this class is full! We ran this in December too but if there is enough interest, we will try to fit in another class.

The Butterfly / Papillon Shawl Knit-Along has started during our Thursday Knit Night or rather they have started but are mostly knitting this one at home because you need to concentrate and are working on other projects at Knit Night!
