Friday, June 19, 2020, Issue 153: What is on your needles?

We had another wonderful but hot week to knit and make and I do admit to taking advantage of it! It was also a week where many of you returned to work with the stress of another new normal.

Today marks Juneteenth, a day celebrating the end of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865.Celebrate, Liberate, Educate. Today is Juneteenth, a day celebrating the end of slavery in the United States in June 19, 1865.

About Juneteenth

Many people are familiar with the celebration of the Fourth of July, but Black people were not declared free from slavery for another 87 years.

The last slaves were not freed for another 2 years in Galveston, TX. An additional 2 years after Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

June 19, 1865 – Juneteenth –  is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Read more about Juneteenth HERE.

Andrea Mowry’s Weekender Light is now available on Ravelry for everyone who wanted a lighter weight version from the original worsted weight.

Andrea Mowry’s The Weekender Light is now available on Ravelry!

Andrea Mowry’s The Weekender

Andrea Mowry - The Weekender (above), originally designed for worsted weight yarn and released a few years ago, is my most popular pattern to date and it may not surprise you that a lighter weight version has been the most frequent request in my inbox! While these 2 patterns are very similar, The Weekender Light has been adjusted for its very different gauge and with a larger range of size options! The Weekender Light is available in 10 sizes, is knit up in fingering weight yarn and has a few adjustments that I hope will result in another favorite sweater for your handknit wardrobe!

The Weekender Light by Andrea Mowry!

The Weekender Light sweater is intended to be worn with approx. 10”/25.5 cm positive ease. To pick your best size, measure your full bust and add your desired ease, then pick the finished bust circumference closest to that number. The gauge is 24 sts & 38 rows = 4”/10 cm on 3.5 mm (US 4) needles used for the main fabric or as required to get gauge. 2.75 mm (US 2) are the suggested needles for cuffs and collar ribbing.

WIP's and FO's

My sister rocking my Deschain by Leila Raabe

Last week, I commented that I really want to knit another Deschain by Leila Raven. Pictured above is my first one that I knit using Lana Grossa Roma. I only have one colour left in stock of Roma. I commented that I wanted to knit one using Berroco Estiva!

My newest WIP on my needles is Leila Raven’s Deschain / Gabrielle. I followed Gabrielle using Deschain’s gauge.

I couldn't resist and so set aside my other WIPS and cast on Leila Raven’s Deschain / Gabrielle. I am following Gabrielle while using Deschain’s smaller gauge.

My newest WIP on my needles is Leila Raven’s Deschain / Gabrielle. I followed Gabrielle using Deschain’s gauge.

It is a fairly quick knit because of the gauge which is 14 stitches and 19 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch, after blocking using 6.5 mm (US 10.5) needles. I am using 5.5 mm (US 9) needles because I am such a loose knitter.

My newest WIP on my needles is Leila Raven’s Deschain / Gabrielle. I followed Gabrielle using Deschain’s gauge.

I cast on a smaller size than my first one 87 instead of 97 stitches and working seven repeats of the shale pattern. I also decided to knit the back the same as the front instead of plain stockinette. I can't wait to finish this one!

My Rock It Tee by Tanis Lavallee is only a few inches below the split in the body so I still have a long way to go! So delicate and pretty though

My Rock It Tee by Tanis Lavallee is only a few inches below the split in the body so I still have a long way to go! It is so delicate and pretty though! I am using Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine and Garnstudio Drops Kid Silk and 3.0 mm (US 2.5) needles.

Hi Brenda, My gauge was 15 stitches = 4 inches after blocking. My finished Deschain is 44 inches wide so I have about 6 inches of ease.

  2. Brenda Brenda

    Hi,
I love your Deshain pictured in this post. I have always liked that pattern but most seem to be SO wide. Yours sizing is more to my liking. Would you mind to tell me how much ease there is in yours? Thanks.
