Friday, May 13 2022, Issue 247: Happy Friday!!

Wow! I can't believe how warm it has been outside! My deck has still been a little too breezy to sit out and knit comfortably though without everything blowing. Have you been knitting outside?

There are so many lightweight summer top patterns...some new and some that are favourites from past seasons! Here are a few for you to consider.

Gorgeous lace details on Irene Lin’s Ola Top

Irene Lin’s Ola Top is worked by starting from the upper back up to the shoulder then separating for each front. Both fronts are knit separately, then joined and knit flat until the underarms. Stitches are picked up from the CO edge of the back, then the back and front are jointed together and knit in the round for the rest of the body.

Anker’s Summer Shirt by PetiteKnit

Anker’s Summer Shirt by PetiteKnit is worked from the top down. The yoke is worked in sections of rib with increases in the round, followed by classic raglan increases when the stockinette stitch section begins. The sleeves are worked at the end, either on double-pointed needles or on circular needles using the Magic Loop technique. Anker’s Summer Shirt has no finishing other than weaving in ends. Begin by working a swatch to determine which needle size you need to achieve the correct gauge. Note that the swatch needs to be washed and blocked before measuring the gauge.

Make gnome mistake about it, it’s time for another mystery gnome! This one combines stranded colourwork with fun new ideas.

Who is casting on for Imagined Landscapes Gnome MKAL 9? Make gnome mistake about it, it’s time for another mystery gnome! This one combines stranded colourwork with fun new ideas.

Gnocchi is pretty pleased to feature in Season 3 of the hit Gnetflix cooking show, “It’s a Chef’s Life.” If you’ve seen the show, you’ll already know that instead of her famous gnocchi recipe inspiring her nickname, it started in childhood because of her nose (gnose?). You’ll also know that she’s very opinionated about the way that spices are sprinkled at the edge of a plate.

Gnocchi features stranded colourwork – a wonderful way to add details to a gnome. It’s like sketching or doodling, and I had so much fun coming up with the patterns. (By the way, if you’ve seen Gnome is Where You Hang Your Hat, this gnome has less colourwork than that one.)

Gnomes are wonderful places to practice colourwork. If your floats are a little wonky, well, wonkiness is gnominess. The name of this pattern is official permission to get things a bit wrong while you work on this skill!

TODAY IS THE DAY FOR CLUE 1! It isn't too late to join in the fun! Ancient Arts Gnome Kits can be found HERE. The kits include 4 mini skeins, not 3 but you can still use them!

My Coterie Shawl by Jessica Ays is still not to the end of the lace section.

My Coterie Shawl by Jessica Ays is still not to the end of the lace section. I am on row 12 of the last 27 rows of the lace section. From there I have the garter short row shaping to do. I am looking forward to seeing the magic that happens when you block lace! Until then, you really can't see the beautiful lace pattern. Below is Jessica's Coterie Shawl! Isn't the lace gorgeous?

I cast on my Pink is for Power by Melanie Berg using the yarn I picked out last week!

I cast on my Pink is for Power by Melanie Berg using Ancient Arts Yarns Socknado in Cindy Lou Who and Malabrigo Silkpaca in 857 Light of Love. I cast on using 2.75 mm needles for the size 2 to gett clooser to the size 3. I got a gauge of 24 stitches for a fabric that I like.

I only had 2 skeins of Malabrigo Silkpaca in my chosen colour so I hope the 840 yards is enough to knit either a short sleeved or sleeveless version for a summer top.
