I can't quite believe that this weekend is the Labour Day long weekend! Is it sweater weather yet? Maybe not quite yet especially with the heat wave they are expecting but maybe it is time to start knitting them? What is on your needles?
Smookie by Kate Davies Designs was originally only available in her book SARK but can now be purchased as a single pattern. This smookie (an old Scots word for a woollen pullover or smock) combines structural twisted stitches with an oversized shape that’s easy to wear and a perfect fall knit.
SIZES
Finished bust circumference: 133 (155, 177) cm / 52½ (61, 70) in
Select a size above your actual bust measurement with 30.5-50cm / 12-20in positive ease
The finished measurements of the garment are calculated taking the proportionate difference of the panels into account.
Shown in the first size with 50cm / 20in positive ease
YARN
DK weight yarn
1100 (1540, 1760) m / 1200 (1680, 1920) yards
Check sizing table for garment dimensions. If you wish to add length to body or sleeves, you may need an extra skein of yarn.
NEEDLES
Gauge-size and below gauge-size circular needles of appropriate lengths for working body, yoke, and neckline
Spare gauge-size needle for working the three needle bind off
Gauge-size and below gauge-size needle(s) of your preferred type for working small circumferences
GAUGE
22 sts and 30 rounds to 10cm / 4in over stockinette (in the round and back and forth) using gauge-size needle. Use 4mm needle as a starting point for swatching.
The panels measure approximately 85% of their stitch equivalent in stockinette.
If your gauge has a tendency to draw in over small circumferences, you may need to go up a needle size for sleeves.
SUGGESTED YARN: Tukuwool DK, The Fibre Co. Arranmore Light, Hedgehog Fibres Tweedy, Garnstudio Drops Lima
Linda (lmcnorton) finished her Smookie which she started for our Kate Davies Any Project KAL in 2023. She knit hers using Drops Lima.
Kay (83krobbins) knit her Smookie by Kate Davies Designs for our Kate Davies Any Project KAL in 2023.
The Siri Cardigan by Lene Holme Samsoe which I talked about last week is now available on Ravelry HERE. When I saw it on Instagram, the designer said it would be available on the Thursday, however, it was only to be found on her website HERE.
The Siri cardigan is a manageable project with cables. The few, but well-placed cables are combined with an easy pattern in moss stitch, which becomes beautiful and voluminous in both blow yarn and in a combination of wool and mohair. The Siri Cardigan has a cable in the centre of each sleeve and two cables on each front panel, while the back is worked entirely in moss stitch.

FOs and WIPs
Early this morning, I had a final round of ribbing and the bind off to go on my Hipster top by Joji, another summer tee for my wardrobe.
I managed to finish the ribbing and Lucy Neatby’s Modified Conventional Bind Off even with eye drops to dilate my pupils at my eye specialist appointment earlier today. I steam blocked it and wove all of the ends in.
I really didn't notice the colour pooling until I took these photos although I am not sure I would have alternated skeins since I used less one skein of each colour and the stripes are 2 rounds each.
Do you like the shoulder crossed stitch pattern detail?
