Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Issue 385: What is on your needles?

This past week has felt like spring out there! Is it time to start your warm weather knitting projects? Will you continue your cozy projects for a few more weeks?

Shaun by Isabell Kraemer is her newest cozy sweater. Shaun is worked seamlessly from the top down.
After the high neck is complete, a few short rows are worked back and forth to create a slightly higher back neck. The yoke is worked in the round with contiguous set in sleeves (developed by Susie Myers) to sleeve separation. The body is then worked in rounds down to the ribbing. Sleeves are worked top down to the long cuffs last. No finishing required.

 Soushun by Ririko

Soushun by Ririko is a long boxy cardigan, worked from the top down seamlessly with two yarns held together throughout. The most part of the body is knitted in Stockinette stitch, with a tiny cable pattern flowing from the collar to the front band. You can add optional pockets to the fronts.

The collar is worked first with a cable pattern and slipped stitch edge (SSE), then stitches are cast on for the front shoulders and worked to the underarms. The back stitches are picked up along the front shoulders and collar and worked to the underarm as well. The front and back are then joined, and the lower body is worked in one piece to the hem, with optional bag-like pockets on the fronts. The sleeves are worked top-down in the round.

Finished measurements

 Cloud Catcher by Stephanie Lotven

Cloud Catcher by Stephanie Lotven is worked SEAMLESSLY from the top down, this cowl knits up quickly (like any good cowl should), but wears like a hassle-free shawl. Unlike traditional tube cowls that rumple into a pile of knitting around your neck, this shawl-shaped construction lets your knitting shine by creating a triangular front and shortened back. The shape is wonderful, wearable, and just plain fun to knit.

(NOTE: There are lots of ways to wear this cowl! Wear the point of the cowl centered in the front (see photo 2), or off one shoulder (see photos 1). You can even wear your cowl with the point in the back!)

Don’t miss Stephanie's BIRTHDAY SALE (happening NOW). Get 41% OFF all her self-published patterns & collections until March 17, 2025. Use the coupon code BDAY at checkout.
