It seems like summer just ended especially with the crazy hot and then cold weather we have had but really....there are only 9 weeks or 67 days until Christmas!
Really? Only 9 weeks until Christmas? Time to start a few quick projects for gift giving?
Perky Little Hat by Sharon Lentsch knit in Malabrigo Rasta is a fun quick little project that uses one skein and big needles - 10.0 mm (US 15). Another quick hat that I have knit using Rasta is Alfalfa by Kristina Larson.
Nightshift by Andrea Mowry is a fun shawl showing off colour play. It includes a recipe to make it all your own, or row by row directions for those who want to play it safe. For the shawl you will need worsted weight yarn in 6 colours and 5.0 mm (US 8) needles for a gauge of 20 sts and 28 rows = 4” in stockinette unblocked. This gem has a sideways shawl construction including knitting, purling, mosaic knitting, I-cord edging, I-cord bind off, increasing, decreasing, slipped stitches and changing colors - lots to keep it interesting!
Wildheart by Janina Kallio is "a dazzling beauty with its clean lines and attention to detail. Romantic with an incredibly modern twist, this shawl is so airy it will leave you breathless.
The signature lace incorporated in this pattern is a unique combination of dropped stitches, eyelets and fishnet lace. Knitted on the bias, the alternating garter stitch and lace sections create dynamic visual interest and make Wildheart an entertaining knit."
The shawl needs just one skein of fingering weight yarn to knit using 4.0 mm (US 6) needles. Instructions are given to use up all your yardage should you have yarn left after all the pattern repeats. The photo I have shown is our Lise (mattedcat)'s Wildheart using Zen Yarn Garden Serenity 20.
CLASSES
Kathy is looking forward to tomorrow morning's Bunny Class which runs the next 4 Saturdays. Her Colin is her lamb, Ellie's new friend!
Kathy made Ellie for our Lamb Class last winter!
Nadine’s Boy Bunny by Julie Williams
Two of bunnies I’ve made - Benedict and Bertie with Little Cotton Rabbits Boy Bunny pattern. Julie Williams, aka bunnyknitter is a talented designer with an amazing menagerie of charming little animals to knit and clothe! We had such fun when we ran the Lamb class last winter, we had to run it again for the Bunny! There are two spaces left so it is not too late to sign up!
I picked up my Ninilchik Swoncho by Caitlin Hunter again to work on! I had set it aside to work on a couple of other projects but the Swoncho Class starts on Sunday...
4 classes over 7 weeks so there is time to learn how to do colourwork with Paulette. There are three spots left!
Are you a newbie knitter, a knitter-wanna-be, or a knitter who need a refresher? Come join us for our Beginner Class and we will pass on the knit-know-how! No experience is necessary for these classes so sign up today! Our next session starts Tuesday evening at 6 pm with Kathy. Check out the other Classes too - there are a few new ones!
WIP's and FO's
My finished and felted my Bedouin Bag by Nora J Bellows knit with Noro Kureyon Air with Kit hardware by Jul Designs.
Love my new felted bag - but I still might felt it smaller! I have a top loading washing machine without an agitator and the hottest setting, I discovered changed to lukewarm when I stopped to check it. I tossed it into the dryer and after two hours of the hot setting for a small load, it had felted to about half the size. The next morning, I decided to try again with the sanitize setting and then drying it again. It shrank some more and while it is the medium size from the pattern, I think I still want it smaller!
KNIT GROUP AND GALLERY
The current Knit-Alongs are the Knit Your Any Project KAL: An everlasting knit-along to encourage and support you to knit your own project (any project, and join in anytime!) from September 15 until December 31, 2018. Remember that you have to post to the Finished Objects thread to be included in the next draw.
Bev finished this beauty knit with Malabrigo Mechita. She thought she would have to frog much of the yoke and start it over (the sweater is knit bottom up) because she forgot to do her decreases every other row but instead decreased every row. It was suggested she put it all on waste yarn and try it on! It fit and with a minimum of more rows, she was able to do her neckband to match her bottom band and finish. She loves it!
Lise knit another Stay-Put Baby Mitts and Hat set for her grandaughter! What a gorgeous green!
Lise has knit several Flax by tincanknits with this one knit for her daughter using Bergere de France Chinaillon.
Sandi’s Thrummed Mitts and Argyle Love Hat
Christina’s Blippi hats for her boys.
Christina’s Aya Tank...so pretty!
I LOVE YARN DAY YARN CRAWL
The first ever Windsor-Essex Yarn Crawl that Sue2Knits, Little Sheep Yarn Boutique and The Hook Pusher participated in last Saturday was a great success!
Linda and Angela brought their knitting...Christina visited and shopped!!! I was kept hopping so only managed to get this shot. We had a great time and I really apologize that I could not give everyone my undivided attention!
On another happy note, my daughter’s photographer caught some great shots of her family!
As my daughter said, the boys were not cooperating but I love these pics of her famjam!
Happy Friday, Happy Knitting, Crocheting and Crafting!
