Friday, October 14, 2022, Issue 267: It's fall and it's sweater weather...Happy Friday!

Have you been enjoying the crisp cool mornings and evenings and watching the leaves transform into the gorgeous fall oranges and reds? Has it inspired you to cast on a sweater or a shawl? Since moving to the Windsor area, I miss those richer hues that you get when living a little farther north .

Malibu by Isabell Kraemer is a symmetrical triangular shawl with instructions for both a 2-colour and a 3-colour versions.

Malibu by Isabell Kraemer is a symmetrical triangular shawl, worked back and forth from the top down. Starting with a garter tab cast on, stitches are increased every RS row at both edges and at the center of the shawl. Instructions for both a 2-colour and a 3-colour version are included in this pattern. The combination of a cute and easy slip stitch pattern (working with one colour on any given row, changing colours every 2 rows), a wide striped section and the sportive 3 x 1 ribbing give this shawl a sophisticated yet casual look.

Thé 2-colour version of Malibu by Isabell Kraemer looks just as amazing as the 3-cour version.

Modification notes
Each section can be shortened or lengthened by working more or less repeats of the pattern repeats. The ribbing section can be enlarged by working full repeats (rows 1 to 8) of the ribbing pattern. Be aware that the amount of yarn needed will change with each alteration.

Joji designed Knit Free as a thank you!

Knit Free by Joji Locatelli is her way of saying thank you.

Knitting is my love language, and I get to knit to earn my living and support my family, thanks to your continued support.
Every now and then I like to publish patterns that are free for everyone to enjoy as a way to permanently thank the knitting community for this opportunity.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for allowing me to live a full and happy life.

Knit Free is also an invitation to use your imagination and free yourself from the burden of spending much when knitting. As knitters, our biggest resource is our wit and our craft, and what will make your project wonderful are your hands, not how much you spend ❤️

Let’s knit free!

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
31 inches (78 cm) circumference and 13¼ inches (33 cm) long.

MATERIALS
Main Yarn:
310 yards 285 m of light DK or heavy sport weight yarn.
Contrasting Colors:
Leftovers of fingering weight yarn in 6 different colors, adding a total of approx. 310 yards 285 m. I used different brands and textures and picked colors that formed an fade (ombre or gradient) progression. You will need approx. 15g (52 yards 47 m) of each color. You could also use any 6-mini-skein set or mini-skeins that different dyers offer.

You can pick any color combination and you don’t need to make an ombre progression, you can arrange them as you prefer! In my sample I used the lightest color first and the darkest last.

Needles: US 5 3.75 mm and US 8 5mm circular needles, 24” 60 cm long.
Other notions: Stitch markers, tapestry needle.

GAUGE
18.5 stitches and 27 rows to 4” 10 cm in Lace Pattern on US 8 5 mm needles after blocking.

SUGGESTED YARNS: For MC - Malabrigo Mechita, Malabrigo Sock, Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light

My second Nightshift by Andrea Mowry is off my needles! Yarn is Noro Akari in colours 5 and 23.

My second Nightshift by Andrea Mowry is off my needles! Yarn is Noro Akari in colours 5 and 23 with Kits available HERE. Kits in Noro Enka are available HERE.

Akari is a soft, worsted weight multi fiber blend that features organic silk and cotton. Translated to "light" or "glimmer" in English, the silk adds a beautiful sheen to this yarn. It is a delightful choice for knitting and crocheting multi-season garments.

  • 26% Silk, 21% Cotton, 15% Viscose, 14% Mohair, 12% Wool, 12% Polyamide
  • Worsted weight
  • 528 yards (483 meters) per 200 grams (7.05 ounces)
  • 16 - 20 sts = 4 inches
  • 4.5 - 5.5mm (US 7 - 9) needles
  • 5.5mm (I) hook
  • Gentle, cold hand wash only, dry flat

Enka is the old Japanese word for 'Fireworks', which is appropriate for this yarn, as sections transform in bursts of different colourways!

  • 50% Cotton, 20% Silk, 15% Wool, 15% Nylon/Polyamide
  • DK weight, single ply, self-striping
  • 550 yards (503 meters) per 200 grams (7.05 ounces)
  • 21 - 24 sts = 4 inches
  • 3.75 - 4.5mm (US 5 - 7) needles
  • 3.75mm (F) - 4.5mm hook
  • Gentle, cold hand wash only, dry flat

I alternated my 2 colours every 20 rows where A is the background, B is the "blips".
Section 1a, A - Col 23, B - Col 5
Section 1b, A - Col 5, B - Col 23
Section 2a, A - Col 23, B - Col 5
Section 2b, A - Col 5, B - Col 23
Section 3a, A - Col 23, B - Col 5
Section 3b, A - Col 5, B - Col 23
Section 4a, A - Col 23, B - Col 5
Section 4b, A - Col 5, B - Col 23
I continued like this for 9 complete sections.
Before blocking, wingspan is 59", centre depth is 34"
After blocking, wingspan is 67", centre depth is 31"

I still haven’t progressed too much farther on my Ninilchik Swoncho by Caitlin Hunter but I am on row 21 of 26 on chart D.

This is my second Ninilchik Swoncho. I am knitting the size 1 for the Sue2Knits Caitlin Hunter Knit-Along using the Ninilchik Swoncho Arranmore Light Kit 1.

I am a loose knitter so for my ribbing, I used a 3.0 mm needle and for the colourwork and body, I am using 3.75 mm needles to get the gauge of 20 stitches and 24 rounds.

My Easy V by Caitlin Hunter is 9.75” from the underarms with only a little bit of my main colour left until I spin some more again!

I am also working on the Easy V by Caitlin Hunter for the KAL. It is 9.75” from the underarms and as you can see in the photo, I have only a little bit of my main colour left. I need to get more spun and plied!
