Summer shawls, scarves, lightweight sweaters and cardigans...What to knit? What to make?
With spring in sight, it is time to start something spring-like and summery!
Gaia by Kristen TenDyke is a seamless and uncomplicated cardigan with a lacy bodice and short-row set in sleeves. It requires a worsted weight yarn that will give you a gauge of 17 stitches and 23 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch using 5.0 mm (US 8) needles. Knit it with Berroco Remix, a tweedy, nubby, machine washable blend with no wool content that is made from 100% recycled fibers.
Notched Hem Tank Top by Purl Soho is an easy fitting tank top that is knit bottom up with stockinette front and back panels and side panels of reverse stockinette. The notched hem has the back longer than the front for an airy feel. Knit it with Schoppel Wolle El Linio like I did...I love mine! Lise knit hers with Hikoo Cobasi! This is the perfect top to wear over shorts or skirts.
Simple Shawl by Jane Hunter is designed to use a single skein of 4 ply sock weight yarn with approximately 400 metres on the skein. The version pictured is AnneLiseL's Simple Shawl which she knit using 2 skeins of Malabrigo Arroyo. It includes garter stitch, eyelets and picots - all of Jane's favourite parts of a shawl.
WIP's and FO's
I finished 2 projects this last weekend on the drive to visit my family. I love car knitting! The Knit.Smile.Relax shawl by Michele C Meadows is a free pattern which I knit using Katia Tahiti Spray. A note about the pattern - on the row following the "wrap yarn over needle twice", you need to drop the second wrap after knitting the first wrap.
My other finished object is my modified modified Effin Scarf by Loretta McCollough that I also knit with Katia Tahiti Spray. I adore long, skinny scarves...this is a go-with-everything scarf because of the colourful cotton tape yarn.
On our visit, Ed and I got to see my oldest grandson participate in a skating recital with the Point Edward Skating Club (I hope I got that right)! What an awesome show! It was the first time we had seen skaters perform and all the age groups we watched were great.
My daughter designed and set up the stencils for my daughter-in-law to make a large rustic family sign that will be hung with pride in their home! I was supposed to make one too but I didn't end up having enough time to get my talented daughter an idea she could use! Next time...
My On the Spice Market shawl by Melanie Berg...is getting closer to the final stretch! Really!! Now if only I didn't interrupt myself with new projects. I did find that I was not going to have enough of CC1 so instead of 4 repeats of Section 4, I worked only 3 repeats and then rows 5 and 6 of Section 4 again which is exactly how CC2 is to be done too!
I started my sample of Casapinka’s Yarn Store Shawl for LYS Day using Manos del Uruguay Alegria in Caracas and SweetGeorgia Tough Love Sock in Grapefruit. What yarn will you choose?
