Is it sweater weather yet? Maybe not quite but it is time to start knitting them! Connie wanted a year round sweater and I think this one hits it out of the ball park!
Celosias by Jennifer Steingass is a quick and easy top down and seamless project featuring a stranded yoke, split hi-lo hem and options for short or long sleeves. With a simple yoke design and quick DK or worsted weight yarn, this is a very approachable stranded yoke sweater pattern for beginners. Use any type of wool or wool blend DK yarn. Calling for just 2 colors, you might already have just the yarn for this project in your stash!
Connie (knitnut246) wanted a year round sweater so knit her Celosia with Rowan Cotton Cashmere - 85% Cotton, 15% Cashmere. She was inspired to knit hers with a third colour after seeing PipMason's test knit version.
Snowfall by Sarah Cooke is a seamless raglan sweater with a beautiful lace panel down the front. It is worked in the round from the top down. Both charted and written directions are provided for the lace pattern. Save 20% with code SNOWFALL until September 16th on Ravelry!
Snowfall is knit using DK weight yarn and has a gauge of 21 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch using 4.0 mm (US 6) needles or as required to get gauge and 3.5 mm (US 5) needles for the ribbing.
This is Kate (knitmotif)’s summery version of Snowfall that I saw last night on Instagram! She knit hers with short sleeves and a cotton and linen yarn! Suggested yarns include Fibre Company Arranmore Light, Rowan Felted Tweed, and the same suggested yarns below for the Tartan Toque. Knit a summer version using Rowan Creative Linen, Rowan Summerlite DK, or Butterfly Cotton 10.
Would you knit a summer version or a long-sleeved for fall/winter?
It is never too early to start a warm toque and cowl to wear or gift! This design for anyone who is mad for plaids! Pattern is Tartan Toque and Tube by Tracie Millar.
In Canada, a toque (rhymes with duke) refers to a warm knitted cap, traditionally made of wool and worn in our long chilly winters. This coordinating pair of patterns are fun and easy slip stitch mosaic colourwork. No tricky yarn management as you only use one colour per round.
We all know how speedy a hat and cowl are to knit. This plaid mosaic design is completely addictive!
- This is a unisex design. Add a dash of personality with your colour choices. Are you loud and bright? Or cool and neutral? Both are so lovely in the Tartan plaid.
- Yarns used are DK weight. The CC is DK held with optional lace weight mohair throughout.
- You can knit two hats or one hat and cowl with one skein (100g) of each MC and CC
- To bobble or not to bobble? Knit the pattern adding optional bobbles or without.
- Pattern includes both written and charted instructions
Approximate yarn amounts used:
Hat:
MC 40g
CC 30 g
7 g mohair
Cowl:
MC 50g
CC 55 g
13 g mohair
Suggested yarns include Kelbourne Woolens Andorra, Fibre Company Road to China Light, Malabrigo Arroyo, Madelinetosh Tosh DK, Berroco Ultra Alpaca Light or Vintage DK.
WIP's and FO's
I cast on for the Joji Fall KAL 2020 this year! I signed up for a pullover and a wrap. Here is my Susurrus by Joji Locatelli wip that I am knitting with the yarn and colours in the pattern which I love. The yarn is Manos Del Uruguay Fino in Havisham and Rosewater and Cabrito in Primrose.
I swatched 40 stitches (not shown) using 3.0 mm (US 2.5) needles the mohair flat and then joined it in the round to swatch the lace in Fino. So many stitches on thee needles already...
I am actually farther now...Here I am just starting the short rows in Section 4.
I also cast on Ashes by Joji Locatelli for the #jojifallkal2020! I am using Lichen and Lace Marsh Mohair and 80/20 Sock in Beach Glass.
I am on my third block for the Covid-19 Memorial Blanket. I will be collecting your blocks until the end of September so that I can ship them early October. The blocks for the 9000 square blanket is to be made using Berroco Vintage. I was able to get 2 blocks out of one hank of yarn but I had very little yarn left so depending on your gauge you may not!
As part of this project, they will also be making individual sized blankets for a variety of agencies throughout Canada. These squares can be knit or crocheted, and can use any washable worsted weight yarn. These are perfect for those who would prefer to use up some stash yarn.
