Wow! Our spring-like weather has turned cold again but I think that now is the perfect time to start your warm weather spring knits!
Joji Locatelli has a new pattern that she named the AMREN shawl, and it is a One Skein Wonder which is often what patterns that take just one skein of yarn are called. She'd like to call Amren a one skein Jewel, wanting to shine a light on the beauty of turning a single skein into a stunning piece of knitwear. This pattern is perfect for that special skein you've been holding onto, waiting for the perfect project to come along.
Joji’s new Amren shawl is 20% off until this Friday, March 22, 2024!
Amren is a simple and delicate shawl designed to use a special skein of luxurious yarn. It is worked in sections, from tip to tip alternating bands of easy lace, garter stitch and small short row wedges.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Wingspan: 62” 155 cm.
Depth at deepest point: 20¾“ 52 cm.
MATERIALS
Yarn:
She used a single skein of yarn with a relatively long meterage (440 yd / 400 m) using EVERY SINGLE YARD. If you choose a skein of yarn that has less yardage than the recommended one, or if you normally use more yarn than what patterns call for, you may bind off sooner, or start the final lace section when you have 10 grams left. If you do so, you might need to adjust your stitch count so that it works with the lace pattern: a multiple of 6 + 5.
1 skein of fingering weight yarn of 440 yards 400m
Needles: 3.75 mm (US 5) needles.
Other notions: Tapestry needle, blocking pins or wires.
GAUGE
20 sts and 33 rows to 4” 10 cm in garter st on US 5 3.75 mm needles after blocking and stretching.
Before measuring, make sure your swatch goes through the same blocking and pinning process as your shawl will.
There are so many beautiful summer tee patterns! Ooh La La by Isabell Kraemer is worked from the top down seamlessly but flat featuring a lace pattern panel in the front while the back is worked in plain Stockinette stitch. Knitting starts with the cast on of the shoulders for the back. Once the short row shaped shoulder slope is done, the back is worked flat to underarm. Shoulder stitches are picked up to work the front to the same length. At underarm both front and back are joined to work the body top down in rounds to the bottom hem. Sleeve stitches are picked up around the arm openings to work the sleeves (short or long) top down in rounds. Neck finishing is worked last.

Edie is an older pattern that is also by Isabell Kraemer. Edie is a simple tee worked with raglan increases from the top down. First you have to work back and forth until V-Neck shaping is complete, then in the round to the end. Textured stripes will help to compensate the yarns tendency to bias. Short-row shaping for the rounded bottom gives a casual finish. Stitches for short sleeves are picked up after body is complete, to work the sleeves top down in the round. An optional neck finishing is provided. Sample shows unfinished, raw edges.

WIPS and FOs
I haven't made much progress on my Turtle Dove II that I cast on after our First Top Down Pullover Class started. Right now I have just a few more rows before I start the twisted rib hem which I am not planning to split.
I cast on the Renaissance Sweater by Elinor Mortensen. who also designed the Secret Garden Sweater that I finished Christmas Eve.
I took this progress shot yesterday. I decided to use Navia Silkiull (75% Wool and 25% Silk) in the black and pink. Mirna happened to come in while I was working on it and she bought the rest of my black! She is going to use white for her contrast colour.
I didn't start the colourwork using it but I did use the ladderback jacquard method as explained by Alexis Winslow. I will definitely be using this method again for patterns with long floats.
