Favourite Patterns Friday, August 2, 2019, Issue 111: Summer knitting anyone?

I love to knit even in the summer but knitting with a worsted weight yarn...even beautiful Malabrigo Rios is hard with this heat unless of course, you are knitting in the air conditioned comfort!!

Linda knit her Humulus by Isabell Kraemerr using Malabrigo Rios in Cumparsita and Sand Bank. It is going to be a favourite this winter!

lilalu (Isabell Kraemer)’s Humulus

Humulus is worked seamlessly from the top down. First some Short Rows are worked back and forth to create a higher back neck and then the round- yoke is worked top down to sleeve separation. Some last short-rows are worked to finish the yoke shaping right before sleeve stitches are placed on hold, then the body is worked in rounds down to the hem. Sleeves are worked top down to the cuffs last.

The pattern comes in sizes XS (S, M1, M2, L, XL, XXL) to fit 37.25 (40.5, 42, 45.25, 48, 52, 56) inches using worsted weight yarn.

Needles
US 5 (3.75 mm) 16” (40 cm) and 32” (80 cm) circular needle and DPNs (or longer circular needle for magic loop) for neck, body and sleeve ribbing.
US 6 (4 mm) 24” (60 cm) and 32” (80 cm) circular needle and DPNs (or longer circular needle for magic loop) for body and sleeves.

Gauge
20 sts x 28 rows = 4” (10 cm) square in Stockinette stitch on larger needle after blocking.

Other yarns that have been used by Ravellers are Cascade 220 Heathers, Madelinetosh Tosh DK, Berroco Ultra Alpaca, to name a few.

Love Note by tincanknits knits up quickly from the top down

Love Note by tincanknits knits up quickly from the top down using a blend of fingering yarn and mohair lace weight held double, but if you substitute we suggest using a DK weight yarn. The yardage given is for COMBINED yarn; so if your size calls for 600 yds, it requires 600 yds of the sock weight yarn, plus 600 yds of lace weight mohair yarn. They suggest choosing a size with between 4 and 12” positive ease relative to your chest measurement. You will need 4.5 mm (US 7) and 6.0 mm (US 10) needles or the sizes required to get a gauge of 16 sts & 24 rounds / 4” in stockinette using larger needles. Like always, tincanknits patterns include sizes 0-6 months up to an adult 4XL.

Yarn suggestions include Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light, SweetGeorgia Tough Love Sock, Lichen & Lace 80/20 Sock to name a few. For the mohair lace, you can use Garnstudio Drops Kid Silk, Lichen & Lace Marsh Mohair or Drops Brushed Silk Alpaca for those who cannot wear mohair.

Free sock pattern by Andrea Yetman - Her Garden’s Flowers

Andrea Yetman's Her Garden’s Flowers is a free sock pattern that was inspired by the delicate color of Cherry Blossom that is found in her garden’s flowers with little budding flowers and travelling leaves. To keep all the attention on this beautiful lace design the toe and heel are kept very simple, topped off with a blended feminine cuff. You will need 383 - 416 yards (350 - 380 m) of sock yarn and 2.5 mm (US 1.5) needles or as required for a gauge of 18 sts across and 24 sts down= 2 inches measured on Stockinette stitch before blocking.

WIP's and FO's

I finished my Nordiska by Caitlin Hunter but not without a few problems!! I knit mine using Berroco Remix Light using only 166g of my main colour Light Smoke, 8g of Butternut and 48g of Pepper. Lots left for a stripey sweater?? Hmmm...

While knitting my second sleeve, I noticed a mistake in sleeve 1! Can you see it in pics 7, 8 and 9 from the bottom? I totally missed row 18 of the sleeve chart! I finished my second sleeve before I frogged back sleeve 1 to row 18 and then re-knitting the rest of the sleeve. I could have knit both sleeves with the mistake…I thought about it but nope, I had to fix it!

Love how it turned out even though my size came out a S instead of a M because of my gauge but think I should have made it at least 2 inches longer! I didn't knit a swatch for this because I had used the same needles and yarn for my Sunshine Coast by Heidi Kirrmaier. This time I got a gauge of 22 stitches = 4 inches instead of the 20 stitches that I got before.
