Favourite Patterns Friday, July 5, 2019, Issue 108: Summer knitting anyone?

It has been so humid and hot that I am not going to even try to sit outside to knit! Inside the house with air conditioning on is where I want to be with my knitting in hand! It was even cool enough for my grandson to try on his new sweater:)

Caleb's Dog Star sweater by Tin Can Knits is the size 1-2 and he only had his first birthday a couple of weeks ago but here he is...

My grandson looks adorable in his Dog Star by tincanknits! I hope it will fit him this coming winter!!

I was planning on making one for each of my grandsons but my daughter said her two don't like pullovers or hoodies. Maybe something with a zipper...and then she said they love shirts so a pullover vest will be perfect! I will knit them vests using the colourwork chart.

PATTERNS

Tracie Millar’s Beach Days, a perfect travel knitting project

Tracie Millar’s Beach Days, is a slow and easy, relaxing knit that is perfect for travel knitting, or when you just need to get lost in a simple project. The combination of two eyelet patterns makes for an easy to memorize knit, and the stripes just make it so fresh, fun and quick to work up. The wrap as written uses 3 colours and has a finished size of 68” long x 19” wide but you can modify the size of the wrap by adding as many panels as you’d like….keep on knitting and make a schlanket! Use 3 colours or as many as you want.

Beach Days is knit using fingering weight yarn and 4.0 mm (US 6) needles or a needed to get a gauge of 22 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in the Waves Lace pattern which is both charted and written.

Joji’s Hipster Cowl inspired by her Hipster Shawl

Joji Locatelli’s Hipster Cowl is probably the coolest accessory I’ve designed, and I might like it even more than the shawl it was inspired by, the Hipster ShawlPractical, fuss free, this cowl goes with everything in my wardrobe. And yes, I do feel cool wearing it… even if not exactly ‘hipster’. This cowl has finished measurements of 14½ inches (36 cm) wide and 56 inches (140 cm) long that you loop around your neck. You need approx. 560 yards (513m) of light worsted or DK weight yarn and 5.0 mm (US 8) needles or as needed for a gauge of 16 stitches and 30 rows = 4 inches in Garter Stitch.

Soldotna Crop by Caitlin Hunter

Soldotna Crop by Caitlin Hunter has more than 2014 projects since March. The Soldotna Crop is a top-down circular yoke sweater that features stranded colorwork. I designed this sweater with Portland’s unpredictable spring weather in mind. I look forward to layering this little top over linen dresses as well high-waisted skirts and pants. The design can easily be lengthened if crops aren’t your style, instructions are included in the pattern. This design is simple enough for an adventurous beginner, yet still engaging for advanced knitters. Best of all, the cropped length and sleeveless style make this a super quick and gratifying project. The body length is easily adjustable, keep in mind changes will alter the yardage required.

It is knit using DK weight yarn using 3.25 mm (US 3) and 3.75 mm (US 5) needles or as needed to get a gauge of 22 stitches and 26 rows = 4 inches in stranded stockinette stitch with the larger needles, after blocking.
