Friday, February 26, 2021, Issue 187: What is on your needles?

Despite the craziness and uncertainty of the past year, it has still flown by! Are you still winter project knitting or have you decided that it is time to start some warm weather knits? I am still knitting cozy knits myself...

Ambah O'Brien has a new shawl pattern out with kits available again from Koigu! Grevvillia Shawl is available on Ravelry now for 20% off through March 15, 2021. No code needed, just add it to your cart to see the new price.

I will have kits up in my shop soon...hopefully tomorrow!

Ambah O’Brien’s new pattern is Grevillia Shawl with kits available in Koigu!

Ambah - Gorgeous Grevilleas, a flower native to Australia, come in a wide array of colours. When I was choosing a colour palette for this design, I found myself drawn to light to dark pinky-reds. The airy lace pattern and range of colours remind me of the spiky, loopy flowers of these beautiful bush flowers. The Grevillea Shawl was designed to feature the ten colours of a Koigu Pencil box mini-skein set, teamed with a main colour. Alternately this will knit up beautifully in a single colour: solid, speckle or gradient. An airy, asymmetrical triangle, this shawl will be fun to knit and lovely to wear all year round.

The pattern includes both written and charted instructions to choose between.

Grevillia Shawl Kit - Original includes a 10 mini skein Pencil Box and two 50g skeins of main colour.

Camilla Vad’s Magnolia Bloom is a soft and feminine sweater with a beautiful lace pattern.

Camilla Vad’s Magnolia Bloom is a soft and feminine sweater with a beautiful lace pattern that is worked seamlessly in the round top down. The gauge is 12 stitches and 17 rows = 4 inches in stockinette using 7.0 mm (US 10.75) needles (or as required to get gauge) so will be a quick knit. 6.0 mm (US 10) needles are used for the ribbing.

The pattern is written holding 2 strands of fingering with 2 strands of mohair but one strand of worsted such as The Fibre Co. Cumbria held double with 1 or 2 strands of mohair such as Garnstudio Drops Kid Silk will work and knit up beautifully! Instead of Cumbria, you could use Stolen Stitches Nua Worsted, Berroco Ultra Alpaca or West Yorkshire Spinners Blue Faced Leicester Aran.

I knit mine using Istex Einband held double (chocolate and almond heather). My gauge for Einband was 19.25 stitches to 4 inches while my gauge for for Istex Lettlopi was 18 stitches to 4 inches using 4.0 mm (US 6) as I usually do when knitting with Lettlopi.

The finished sweater does not have as much ease as I usually include but I am very happy with it!
