With the pandemic still in full swing, most of us are exhausted and need something to focus on other than masks. And if you live in a cold climate, February is just THE WORST so why not have an easy Netflix knitting project and one GREAT for beginners?

With the pandemic still in full swing, most of us are exhausted and need something to focus on other than masks. And if you live in a cold climate, February is just THE WORST so why not have an easy Netflix knitting project and one GREAT for beginners?

In keeping with the EFFing theme, it is encouraged that you to dig deep in your WIPs and EFF one of them:

  • Fix it!
  • Finish it!
  • Frog it!
  • EFF it!

RULES:

  1. You must be knitting Quindici to be in the running for a prize.
  2. The WIP portion is optional; you can participate in the KAL with only WIPs, but you won’t be eligible for a prize.
  3. WIPs can be projects from other designers, but please respect S’curity and The Boss, and keep chatter regarding other designers to a minimum. No links to other designers; if there’s too much chatter, I reserve the right to delete that portion of the post (meanie Onion).
  4. Photos are required! We want eye candy to help us through this typically gray and gloomy month.
  5. Prizes will be dangled, so have fun!!
  6. Runs Effuary 6th, until SFS decides we’re through.

Casapinka’s Quindici is an interesting and relaxing boomerang shawl that consists of 15 segments (quindici is Italian for 15), with textured, seed, slipped and lattice stitches.

Each segment is a memory souvenir from a special trip to Italy with my daughter.

Join in for their EFFUARY KAL starting EFFUARY 6th in the Casapinka group! If you find Effuary hard, especially this year, you are not alone!

Cut ends are minimized by doing some of the adjacent segments without changing colors.

325 yards main color
280 yards for contrasting color
92 yards for accent color

This beauty is the Scout Shawl by Florence Spurling! It’s an intricate, pattern-filled shawl inspired by the pieced together aesthetic of vintage quilts. A dream project for colourwork lovers, Scout’s patchwork effect is achieved by mixing Fair Isle and intarsia knitting throughout. Knitted sideways from tip-to-tip, the easy-to-wear shape and size of the shawl is designed to display maximum detail as it drapes over the shoulders.

Finishing Section 4 of my The Twigs by Junko Okamoto.

On my needles is The Twigs bby Junko Okamoto that I am knitting using Tukuwoool Fingering in Runo as my main colour, Uomo as CC1 and Aava (the lighter blue) as CC2. Here I have finished the Section 6 chart.

Progress shots of my The Twigs by Junko Okamoto knit using Tukuwool Fingering.

In the closeup above, the Section 6 increases are complete and I have 400 stitches on my needles.

Finished Section 8 of the yoke with 520 stitches now on my needles!

Last night I finished the Section 8 chart and the section increases. I now have 520 stitches on my needles and last night as I was finishing those increases, I noticed that I had messed up on the final approximately 40 stitches of the chart which was 6 rows back!!

I dropped back in 4 sections about 12 stitches and repaired the rows using DPNs. Whew! They DO say that you learn from your mistakes and luckily (or unluckily) I have done this many times so I did not have too frog back 6 rounds of 520 stitches just to fix it!

The separation of the body and the sleeves is done in Section 10 so I am getting close and considering I cast this on on January 18th or 10 days ago, I am doing pretty good!

Here are her mods: I made the 44 size, and after the separation for the sleeves, I increased 14 sts total, just on the front at the side of the bust. I did this by in adding 2 sts each side on the first row, knit 1 row, increase 1 sts each side next row, knit one row, increase 1 sts next row on each side, knit 1 row, increase 2 sts each side next row, knit one row and finally increase 1 sts each side. Continue knitting to 25" length total.

This gave me more material out front where needed, but kept the back nice and slim. I finished with a k3, purl 1 ribbing for 8 rows so it hangs nice and doesn't curl.

IN-STORE SHOPPING

We are still open for in-store shopping, limiting store capacity to under 10. I am not comfortable with more than that even if we can. We are still not able to teach classes so they are once again being put on the back burner. Our Tuesday Knit Afternoon has still been running but we have dropped the numbers down to 5. Please call to reserve your spot. Our Thursday Knit Night switched over to Zoom last week. Details for next week to be announced in the Facebook Knitters and Makers Group.

MASKS

Customers must be FULLY masked at ALL TIMES. That means no letting your mask drop below your nose!

ONLINE AND CURBSIDE PICKUP

Remember that everything is available online so if you need yarn, needles, books or anything else, you can shop online and we can carry it out to your car for you. Keep in mind that if there is a Ravelry pattern you want that isn't listed online, it can be added and printed for you, just let us know.

Happy Friday, Happy Knitting, Crocheting and Crafting! Keep calm and keep on knitting and making!
