Friday, July 22, 2022, Issue 257: Lazy summer days...Happy Friday!

Oh but it has been really hot outside! We really shouldn't complain though because it could be hotter or there could be no air conditioning! I am truly thankful that most of us have the luxury of being able to stay inside and cool.

With the hot and humid weather we’re in the middle of, the CÉCILE Top by Susanne Müller is the perfect light summer top in a wide ribbed pattern.

It can also be worn with shirts, blouses and blazers!

Of course, it can also be worn with shirts, blouses and blazers. The top is knitted from top to bottom so you can adjust the length. The front and back are knit in rows until after the arm shaping and then the body is knit in the round.

The instructions are very detailed, as the sizes are partly written individually. A little tip: Simply mark all information about the corresponding size and, if necessary, print only the relevant pages in order not to lose the overview.

YARN WEIGHT: Fingering

GAUGE: 25 stitches and 34 rows = 4 inches washed and unstretched

NEEDLE SIZE: 3.0 mm (US 2.5)

YARDAGE:

525 (525) 525 (700) 700 (875) m

Mastiha by Thea Colman is a beautiful new cardigan pattern with a geometric and dramatic motif.

Instead of a summer top, you might be ready to cast on for the fall! Mastiha by Thea Colman is a beautiful new cardigan pattern with a geometric and dramatic motif. It is the cardigan she plans to live in this winter! She wanted the motif to be crisp and distinct, but not overwhelming -- since this will be worn with everything in her wardrobe.

Mastiha is knit flat, from the bottom up. The sweater is split into three pieces at armhole and they are then worked separately to shoulders. At shoulders, the front edge stitches continue to be worked in a strip to meet at center back neck.

Shoulders and these edge stitches are seamed to finish the body before sleeve stitches are picked up along armholes and worked in the round to cuff. Button band is picked up along front opening and worked flat to end.

Cables are both charted and written.

SIZES:
36.25(40.25,44.25,48.25,52.25)(56.25,60.25,64.25,68.25)” 92(102.25,112.5,122.5,132.75)(143,153,163.25,173.25)cm
Size reflects circumference around body, worn closed and is based on final, blocked fabric. Sweater shown worn with 5”/12.75cm of positive ease.

YARDAGE PER SIZE:
1000(1150,1250,1350,1450)(1600,1700,1750,1800)yds 915(1060,1145,1235,1325)(1465,1555,1600,1695)m

Worsted-weight yarn needed. Yardage reflects bracelet-length sleeves and body length given in pattern. If modifying, adjust quantity as needed.

WIPs and FOs

I finished two projects last week so I cast on Sommerknus by Elsebeth Judith!

I finished my two projects last week, so this week I cast on Sommerknus by Elsebeth Judith on Friday night! I decided to cast on with Sandnes Garn Line in 2331 Light Beige.

Line is a classic mix of fibres that will work from summer to fall. The softness of cotton, the drape of linen, and a hint of shine from the viscose makes this a special yarn. With this blend, the yarn acquires the absorbent and soft properties of cotton and viscose, combined with the cool feeling of linen. The combination of the sheen of the viscose with the matte finish of the linen gives the yarn an exciting structure and surface.

Line and Tynn Line are the same yarn in two different thicknesses - Line is a 4-ply yarn and Tynn Line is a 3-ply yarn.

  • Worsted (9 wpi)
  • 53% Cotton, 33% Viscose, 14% Linen
  • 120 yards (110 meters) in 50 grams (1.76 ounces)
  • 20 sts = 4 inches
  • 4.0 mm (US 6) needles
  • Machine wash cold, Dry flat

I am knitting this one with Sandnes Garn Line in 2331 Light Beige.

By Saturday night, I had my yoke knit up to the third set.

I am finding this one is knitting up fairly quickly since the gauge of 18 stitches = 4 inches matches the needles. By Sunday, I have finished most of the yoke.

This morning I am at the start of Set 3 of the body. I used 3.0 mm needles for the neck and 4.0 mm needles as my main needles.

I also cast on my Bonnie Isle Hat by Linda Shearer, this year’s official Shetland Wool Week knitting pattern. The pattern is free until next year’s pattern is announced.
