Friday, May 28, 2021, Issue 200: Happy Friday!

After last weekend 's hot, humid weather, the rain and cooler weather is definitely putting me into the mood to just sit and knit!

There are quite a few Knit-A-Longs (KALs) running or starting soon!

The Fibre Co “One Sock” Knit-A-Long

The Fire Co is hosting a Sock Knit-A-Long (KAL) starting June 1st! the KAL is Free and Knitters of any skill level can join (Fibre Co’s ‘one sock’ pattern is ideal for novices). If you’re a beginner sock knitter this is a great opportunity to take advantage of the free resources offered though the KAL!

The Fibre Co “One Sock” Knit-A-Long pattern by Kate Atherley is a classic top-down sock.

They are kicking off their “Month of Socks” with a Zoom party hosted by The Fibre Co. founder Daphne, One Sock designer Kate Atherly, and knitting teacher Renée Callahan.

The party starts 1st June at 5pm BST | 12 noon EDT  | 9am PDT.

At 5, Daphne will start things off by telling us about 'How to make the perfect sock yarn'. Then Kate Atherly will chat about the One Sock pattern, and finally Renée Callahan will describe how the KAL (and the prizes!) will work. We will have time for a few questions at the end. This will be a fun introduction to the KAL for knitters, but for those who need a little more help with their cast on, the first video tutorial covering needle arrangements and how to cast on will come out on 2nd June.

Knitters only have to do one of two things to be able to take part in the KAL and to win prizes: either 1. Knit the One Sock pattern in any yarn OR 2. Knit any sock pattern in Amble yarn. And of course they are more than welcome to knit the One Sock pattern in Amble yarn!

Post your finished object before July 1st, 2021 and be entered in their prize draw!

If you haven't registered yet, please do! Register Here.

One Sock Baby is included in the One Sock by Kate Atherley for The Fibre Co One Sock KAL.

One Sock is a classic top-down sock pattern to fit all feet, designed in our sock yarn Amble. With lots of opportunities to customise the fit and design, this pattern comes with the One Sock Guidebook, a resource that walks makers through the process of knitting beautiful socks that fit, as well as an opportunity to practice your new sock skills with the beginner-friendly Baby Sock pattern.

Get ready for Olive Knits 5th Annual 4 Day KAL

It’s been five years since that first long weekend when I thought maybe I’d try to knit a sweater in four days. It was a silly personal challenge and I had no idea that it would become an annual event that drew together a remarkable community of knitters around the globe. The 4 Day Knitalong has never been about 4 days – not really. It’s about knitting a sweater faster than we thought we could – and doing it with the energy, enthusiasm, and the support of our community.

The first 4 Day Knit-a-long was Stillwater, then Beekeeper, then Foxtrot and Soundtrack. We knit together through highs and lows, through our triumphs and our struggles. We knit together through the loneliest year that many of us have ever experienced.

This year, with hope on the horizon, we’re embracing the 5th Annual 4 Day Knitalong with renewed energy and joy. Join us for the knitting party of the year – a celebration of life, friendship, and brighter days. Our 2021 Theme is FIREWORKS (I did say it was a celebration, didn’t I?)

Olive Knits 4 Day KAL

HINTS

  1. It’s a yoke-style pullover
  2. It’s one single color
  3. My team and I knit our samples in Sew Happy Jane Delightful DK Tweed
  4. DK weight tonals, solid colors, tweeds, and kettle-dyed yarns are recommended. Less color variation is better.
  5. Participating LYS and yarn dyers will have other fun yarn ideas to share
  6. There are NO photo sneak peeks until June 7th
  7. The skill level is intermediate, but if you’re a confident advanced beginner, you can do this
  8. You DO NOT have to knit the sweater in 4 days  – we knit together the whole month of July, so you can work at your own pace.

Fit Advice — This sweater is meant to fit with about 2 inches/5 cm positive ease. For best results, choose the size with a finished measurement that is 2 inches/5 cm larger than your full bust measurement.

SUPPORT YOUR FAVOURITE YARNIES!

In addition to our yarn sponsor, Sew Happy Jane, we have OODLES of yarn shops and dyers participating to bring you drool-worthy yarn + some LYS activities with participating shops, in select locations. (Scroll down to see the list!) We’ll be giving away 50+ prizes from your favorite shops and yarnies (and yours truly) throughout the month of July while we knit along together.

WHAT IF I CAN'T KNIT IT IN 4 DAYS?!?

You do not have to knit the sweater in 4 days. For those who like a challenge, you can try your hands at the speedy 4-10 day pace (based on your size), but the speed is completely up to you. We’ll be celebrating and knitting throughout the month of July, so you can work at the pace that’s best for you. The goal is to reach the finish line – however long it may take to get there. We’re here to help you knit a sweater faster than you thought you could, but it’s a personal challenge that will vary from person to person.

I have blocked my Baby Bear by Cocoknits and am ready to sew on the snap tape...then finish the ribbing!

I took the needles off of the leg that doesn't have the ribbing so that I could block it. Of course, I forgot to set my timer for the soak cycle that I use and so my washing machine ran its complete soak, wash, rinse and spin cycle! My Baby Bear by Cocoknits is fine! Good thing Navia Faroese Sock is machine washable! I  am ready to sew on the snap tape...then finish the ribbing!

Gnelson, my gnome for Sarah Schira (@imagined_landscapes) m’ Gnome MKAL 6 is finished!

Once again, I joined in for Sarah Schira (@imagined_landscapes)'s Gnot Just Another Gnome MKAL!  Gnelson, my gnome for this Gnome MKAL 6 is finished! I used a Gnot Just Another Gnome MKAL Kits from Ancient Arts Yarn in River Walk for mine. The grey was supposed to be C3 too be used for the body but I messed up and knit both the beard and the body with C3 instead of C2 for the body and C3 for the beard. I wasn't about too redo the whole body so I knit a new beard in C2 which is now the grey! Whew!!

I cast on Rhys by Alison Green for Berroco Cardi Party 2.0! I won the yarn at the end of the Berroco Cardi Party 1.0.

This cardigan is cropped, featuring columns of eyelets that begin at the fronts and center back and spread out to the shoulders. Garter stitch front bands complete the piece.

I am not knitting mine cropped! Instead of 10 repeats of the 4 row repeat, I knit 16 repeats. I am getting close to finishing the back. I am also considering making my fronts a little wider and the front bands in ribbing instead of garter stitch. My inspiration for knitting this pattern with modifications is Pat (patmorrow on Ravelry)'s long version.
