This week I was able to take advantage of some gorgeous days to sit out front and out back to enjoy some spring knitting! It is even high time to start summer knitting projects or maybe like you you still have a bunch of projects still on your needles.
Jocelyne finished her Breathe and Hope Shawl designed by Casapinka for the mini Support you LYS Day! She knit hers using Zen Yarn Garden Serenity 20 in Green Apple and Coast Guard from a kit that she purchased for it.
Casapinka has done it again with a new pattern Hug Shot coming June 5th. The Hug Shot is an asymmetric rectangle (or “boomerang”) shawl that begins at the small end and ends up with a wide border at the opposite end. There are slipped stitches, garter and stockinette making it a fairly easy project.
Sharon From Security, feline extraordinaire, suggested that Casapinka do another FREE pattern with Yarn kit promotion like last month's Breathe and Hope shawl!
June 4 is (Inter)National Hug Your Cat Day, but Sharon From Security declared the entire weekend National Hug Your Pet Weekend (June 5 to 7), to include other pets (which means we can include dogs, birds, and you name it)! We're going to celebrate it and invite you to join us for this fun knit (and some loving from a favourite pet)!
This generous promotion is to help indie dyers and LYS. Buy a yarn kit which are listed as 2 Skein Shawl Kits and receive a download code to be redeemed between June 5-7!
Ancient Art Yarns have come up with three colour combinations which will be available by Hug Shot Socknado Pre-Order Kits only in their Socknado base. I will place my order on Tuesday, June 2 so if you want one of these, please place your order as soon as possible. Use it for the Hug Shot or any other 2 skein shawl you need yarn for!

Marie Greene of Olive Knits 4th Annual 4 Day KAL pattern Soundtrack is out on Ravelry! THIS IS A PREORDER so you can start swatching and find out how to participate in the KAL. The pattern will arrive to your Ravelry library on July 1st so we can cast on. The KAL runs July 1st - August 1st. The price is discounted to $8.00 USD through June 15th. Regular price will be $9.00 USD. You can also order it through the shop HERE.
Soundtrack is a circular yoke pullover with slipped stitch details. This year’s KAL has 4x more days to knit your sweater (instead of 4-8 days, everyone will have 16-32 days!) This pattern recommends a DK or light worsted weight wool, knit to a gauge of 21 st in 4 in/10 cm on a US Size 5/3.75mm needle in stockinette stitch, blocked.
The suggested yarn is Kelbourne Woolens Scout of which I have plenty of stock to choose from but I think it will look equally in a tweedy yarn such as Rowan Felted Tweed DK, a kettle-dyed such as Malabrigo Arroyo or what about a summer yarn such as Rowan Cotton Cashmere.
Lisa Hannes (malihadesigns) has a lovely pattern out for a summer top called Tulpe Top. The 20% off intro-discount is good until May 31 with the code TULPE .
This beautiful summer top features a wonderful textured tulip motif (“Tulpe” means tulip in German) combined with ribbing and stockinette stitch to create a modern and feminine item for everyday wear.
“Tulpe Top” is a straight, oversized tee with a loose-fitting swingy body, boat neck, split-hem and drop shoulders. The construction is worked top-down, seamlessly in one piece. The upper front/back pieces and the split-hem are worked flat, the stockinette body is worked in the round.
This pattern creates a wonderful lightweight item with a textured stitch pattern that’s easy but engaging and that you’ll love to knit and wear.
The tulip pattern is provided in both charted and written instructions.
Faded Flowers by Corrine Walcher is a summery socks pattern featuring an eyelet and twist design for those summer nights when the flowers are putting out the last of their blossoms and the nights are chilly. There are 3 sizes which are S (M, L) 7” (8”, 9” around), unstretched.
And one more...Just look at JulyChic’s Violet Waffles Hat knit using Malabrigo Arroyo showing off the beauty of the yarn! I know I don't have this particular colour but imagine what it will look like knit in any of the colours. The Violet Waffles is a free Ravelry download pattern that will make a wonderful gift knit or for yourself.
WIP's and FO's
Still a long way to go on my Breathe and Hope Shawl by Casapinka! I need to stop and work it exclusively and not jump back and forth between my current WIPs especially since I like how my yarn is knitting up and want to see it blocked.
I am up to the 7th of 8 repeats in Section 3 on my Venezia Shawl by Joji Locatelli but again I have a long way to go! I am using Malabrigo Mechita in 697 Full Moon Trio and Drops Kid Silk in 01 Off White.
