Every year, Natasja Hornby embarks on a journey trying to expand upon one of her favorite techniques, mosaic knitting, by creating what she refer to as a ‘Grand Mosaic’ shawl. Artus, with its striking blend of colours and patterning perfectly fits her grand design criteria.

Artus is a rich tapestry of texture and colour. The mosaic border is easy to work, allowing for creative color combinations that consistently produce fantastic results.

YARN
A sport weight yarn. Due to the floats produced by the mosaic technique it’s advisable to choose a yarn with a high wool content in a non-superwash quality.
Sample is shown in Lichen and Lace Rustic Heather Sport, 100% wool, 197 m / 215 yards per 56 grams.

Color 1: approx 470 m / 515 yards.
Color 2: approx 180 m / 195 yards.
Color 3: approx 270 m / 295 yards.
Color 4: approx 120 m / 130 yards.
Color 5: approx 130 m / 142 yards.

NEEDLES
Needle A (for the Waffle Pattern sections)
One 100 cm / 40” (or longer) circular needle in size needed to obtain gauge listed.
Suggested needle size: 3.5 mm / US #4.
Needle B (for the stranded and mosaic color-work sections)
One 100 cm / 40” (or longer) circular needle.
Suggested needle size: 3.75 mm / US #5.

GAUGE
Measured after blocking.
Waffle Pattern: 22 sts x 40 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4” on Needle A.
Mosaic Colorwork: 22 sts x 60 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4” on Needle B.

NOTE
The Mosaic Colorwork is CHARTED ONLY.

Rowan hosted a Knit Along that started in July and ended October 12th. Add some festive charm to your home with this beautiful heirloom blanket, perfect for keeping cosy during the holidays. The Midwinter Blanket by Martin Storey is designed with six squares, each to be released weekly, allowing you to savour the joy of knitting while steadily progressing towards a stunning finished piece.

NEEDLES

To work the squares, you will need 1 pair 3¾mm (no 9) (US 5) needles.

For the trim around the outside of the blanket you will need 3¼mm (no 10) (US 3) circular needle at least 110 cm long.

GAUGE

26 sts and 27 rows to 10 cm measured over patterned st st, 24 sts and 32 rows to 10 cm measured over plain st st, both using 3¾mm (US 5) needles. Each completed square is 15 cm (6 in) square.

FINISHED SIZE

The completed blanket is 5 squares wide and 7 squares long - total of 35 squares. Together with the trim, the finished dimensions are 79 cm (31 in) wide and 109 cm (43 in) long.

My newest grandchild looks absolutely adorable in the Some BUNNY loves you bonnet by Simply Sycamore!

My granddaughter is wearing the Back Flap Sleeper by Simply Sycamore. Another week and it would not have fit! I used Cascade Cantata for this adorable set for my daughter's and my photo shoot.

Here’s our darling in her Open Back Ballerina Onesie by Simply Sycamore and Ruffle Bonnet by Cassandra May. I used Garnstudio Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk in Powder Pink for both.

Here's her as yet un-named bunny in a dotty dress by Julie Williams of Little Cotton Rabbits knit using Bergere de France Ideal.

For my trip, I brought yarn to start 2 projects because I was undecided which to make first but it turned out I didn’t bring enough to continue on my cardigan and I didn’t think to bring the third colour for the pullover.

I cast on my Growing by Lone Kjeldsen sample for our upcoming KAL class. I have only have 10 more rows before the increases on the left front. I should be able to join the pieces tonight for the body. I am using Regia Premium Merino Yak held double with almost all of the Manos Cabrito mohair left in stock. If want to make one similar to mine, you can use Drops Kid Silk.

**I have had a couple of people ask if this can be an evening class or weekend instead. There are not enough Saturdays. Do we want it as a Wednesday evening from 7-9 (Kathy prefers not want to do evenings so it would be me) or Sundays from 10-12 with Kathy.

When I ran out of the mohair that I was using for my Growing, I cast on my Secret Garden Sweater by Elenor Mortensen. I am using the yarn specified in the pattern, Regia Premium Alpaca Soft and Regia Premium Merino Yak. Kits are available HERE.
