Friday, September 20, 2019, Issue 116: Is it time to start cozy knitting?

I am not quite ready to think of cozy knitting but then again I have already taken my woolen knits out! I even wore my Ninilchik Swoncho yesterday! Mirna here looks fabulous in her beautiful cabled sweater (Fain by Kim Hargreaves) which surprise, surprise! She knit this beauty in Rowan Handknit Cotton NOT wool from one of the Rowan pattern books!

Linda brought to my attention that Adrienne Fong (BellybuttonKnits Designs) lost her battle with cancer 9/18/2019. Per Adrienne’s wishes, her patterns are free here on Ravelry. Knowing that Ravelers would want to do something, she said that donations toward the fight against cancer would be appreciated.

Black Tie, Optional - sock pattern by Adrienne Fong are socks livened up with beads!

Adrienne's Black Tie, Optional are socks livened up with beads! Pictured are gtteknochik's knit socks. These socks need 360-450 yards of fingering weight yarn, 2-2.5 mm (US 0-1.5) needles, 200 size 8/0 beads (optional), and a crochet hook for beads. "I admit that knitting socks in plain white or black yarn can be boring. So, I’ve decided to liven up the challenge by adding beads and some fun twists to the socks which I hope that you will enjoy."

Emm1e’s Hanauma Bay Socks by Adrienne Fong

These fun looking socks are Emm1e’s Hanauma Bay Socks by Adrienne Fong. Emmie used Regia's cotton Tutti Frutti in 2419 Dragonfruit. The socks are knit cuff down with eye of partridge heel flap/gusset and a wedge toe starting with a garter stitch border. The simple lace motif flows from the leg down the instep. There is errata for this pattern on the Ravelry pattern page.

Take a look at Adrienne's patterns and consider making a donation!

Andrea Mowry’s Nightshift mosaic shawl

Have you considered trying mosaic knitting? Andrea Mowry's Nightshift shawl has been on everyone's radar ever since it showed up on Ravelry along with her Shift Cowl. Nightshift is designed for worsted weight yarn (DK weight has been used as well by many) in 6 colours. The recommended needles are 5.0 mm (US 8) in a 32" length for a blocked gauge of 20 sts & 22 rows = 4”/10 cm worked in the stitch pattern. Adjust your needle size if you are using a lighter weight yarn.

This shawl has been knit using Noro Silk Garden, Kuyeyon, Schoppel Wolle Zauberball Starke 6, Edition 3 (coming soon), and many, many other yarns. Have fun choosing your own mix.

Paulette finished her Nightshift shawl by Andrea Mowry! She had avoided starting the pattern only to become totally addicted once I got started!

Paulette finished her Nightshift shawl earlier this week - she had avoided starting the pattern because of the mosaic slip stitches only to become totally addicted once she got started. The push to get her to start was that she and two friends decided to knit it together!

WIP's and FO's

I did not get a chance to work on the socks I started...

I am knitting with Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light in Tart using 2.75 mm needles instead of the recommended needle size of 3.5 mm because I am such a loose knitter. I also modified the the width of the collar to 3 repeats instead of five. Thank you tweedy2shoes and bmcckuskey for this great variation!
