Friday, September 23, 2022, Issue 264: It's fall and it's sweater weather...Happy Friday!

It is officially fall with our evenings coming sooner and weather that has not made up its mind yet. I find myself starting out in a summer sweater but having to either change into a warmer sweater and throwing on a shawl!

Our newest Knit-Along is a Caitlin Hunter (Boyland Knitworks) KAL. The KAL will run until December 31st.

Come in to choose your yarn or stash dive! Kits are now available for the Ninilchik Swoncho HERE. Kits for the Koivua are not quite ready!

Work on your own or join us on Tuesday or Wednesday (new for the KAL) Knit Afternoons from 2-4pm. Use the hashtag #sue2knitscaitlinhunterkal.

I love all of her sweater patterns but her shawls are truly wonderful too!

It is knit from the top down featuring a repeating pattern of lace with bobbles and just a little bit of colorwork (using both stranded and slipped stitches) . A graphic grid border design worked in an easy slip stitch pattern and clean i-cord edge helps to balance the delicate lace in a way that really appeals to her.

I haven’t progressed too much since last week on my Nightshift.

I haven’t progressed too much since last week on my Nightshift 2 by Andrea Mowry that I am knitting to showcase the Noro Nightshift Kits in Akari and Enka available. I am using Akari for my sample using colours 23 and 5.

My Nightshift by Andrea Mowry was knit using Arranmore Light as the MC and Schoppel Wolle Starke 6 for CC1 and CC2.

This one is totally different from my first Nightshift which was knit using Arranmore Light as the MC and Schoppel Wolle Zauberball Starke 6 for CC1 and CC2.

Arranmore Light in teal (Kinnego Bay) is used throughout as Col A.
Schoppel Wolle Zauberball Starke 6 in 1701 is Col B for the first 20 rows.
Schoppel Wolle Zauberball Starke 6 in 2231 is Col C for rows 21-40.

I worked a total of 10 repeats of the 40 row Stitch Pattern to get a bigger size since mine would have been smaller with the smaller gauge yarn. I had 211 stitches.

After Blocking:
Wingspan = 66.5"
Centre depth = 33.5"

This is is far as I can go on my Easy V by Caitlin Hunter until I get more of my hand spun main colour plied but at least I am more than an inch past the split in the body.

I have been working on my Easy V by Caitllin Hunter. This is is far as I can go until I get more of my hand spun main colour spun and plied but at least I am more than an inch past the split in the body.

I am using my hand spun:

Contrast: Ashford Corriedale (White)
Contrast: SweetGeorgia Corriedale in Midnight Feast
Contrast: SweetGeorgia Polwarth+Silk in Tofino Roadtrip

I cast on my second Ninilchik Swoncho - this one for the Knit-Along!

I cast on my second Ninilchik Swoncho - this one for the Knit-Along using the Ninilchik Swoncho Arranmore Light Kit 1.

My first Ninilchik Swoncho is one of my favourite sweaters!

My first Ninilchik Swoncho is one of my favourite sweaters which I love to wear as a SWEATER and not as a poncho. It is also one of the most comfortable! This was the project the shop knit for the Fall 2018 colourwork class. I knit size 1 using my gauge of 18 stitches instead of 20. There is plenty of ease to allow easy movement so you shouldn't look at the measurements and think you should knit the smaller size.

For the colourwork, we used the 2 handed method for no floats which while taking a little longer results in a woven fabric that your rings and jewelry will not get caught on! We caught the floats basically every other stitch. I knit the one colour continental which I kept on the left and under while I threw like usual with my right for the second colour which I kept on the right.

Here’s the wrong side of my first Swoncho…see no big floats.
