Stromboli by Caitlin Hunter is the latest in her Knitaly series - tee patterns inspired and named for places in Italy. Her dream is to one day visit all the places in the series! Stromboli is an island near Sicily, and the home of an active volcano (Mount Stromboli). The other patterns in the series are Tegna, Marettimo, Navelli, Misurina and Manarola.

This pattern is knit from the bottom up in the round, then separated for front and back which are worked flat. After joining the shoulders, sleeve stitches are picked up and worked in the round, either to long or short length as preferred. Finally collar stitches are picked up and worked.

SIZES
Measurements given are for the finished garment. This sweater is designed to fit with 7-15”/18-38 cm of positive ease at the chest. Sample shown is size 1- worn with 10” / 25.5 cm of positive ease. See Schematic on page 4 for full fit details.

Needles:
Note - needle sizes are suggested only. You may need to use a different size to achieve gauge.

Ribbing: US 2/2.75 mm
Main: US 3/3.25 mm

Notions:
Stitch marker(s) including 1 unique BOR marker and 2 removeable markers, scrap yarn or stitch holders, tapestry needle, row counter (optional)

GAUGE
22 sts and 32 rows/rounds = 4”/10 cm in stitch pattern on main needle after blocking.

Designed to be worn with 5-10 cm / 2-4” positive ease around the chest.
To choose the most appropriate size, measure the wearer’s chest and add the preferred ease. Or measure the circumference of an already-owned top that fits well. Then find the closest finished chest circumference.

YARN: DK weight or fingering held double. Depending on the length of the top, allow approximately (if using yarns held together, amount given is for each strand separately):

• 560 (635, 715, 790, 870, 940, 1030, 1115, 1205) m
• 615 (695, 780, 865, 950, 1025, 1125, 1220, 1320) yds

GAUGE: 20 sts & 28 rows = 10 cm / 4” in Stockinette stitch on larger needles, blocked.

Width of half of the Main Chart repeat = 9 cm / 3 ¾”.

SUGGESTED NEEDLES:

• 4.00 mm (US 6) circulars 60-100 cm / 24-40” long. These should be metal (or material that doesn’t break easily) and with sharp tips
• 2.75-3.00 mm (US 2-2.5) circulars 60-100 cm / 24-40” long

Gnatty The Unexpected Gnome by Sarah Schira is her free pattern for her free mystery knit along to celebrate the upcoming publication of The Gnomes of Grimblewood.

Sarah really wants people to play with the gnomes in the book and not just knit them as they see them. That’s why half of the gnomes have hats and bodies that can be mixed and matched!

For this August she has mixed-and-matched up a gnome for everyone to knit.

FOs and WIPs

 

 

 

I decided to cast on Agave by Yumiko Alexander. I am using Quince & Co. Kestrel and 5.0 mm needles to get gauge.

 

 

 

I am looking forward to blocking this to be able to see the full effect of the opened up lace.

 

I am almost finished my newest bunny! All she needs is for me to knit the tail! This one has a dress and dungarees with a top and a cardigan in my to-do list.

Amazingly, she even worked on this complicated project during our Knit Afternoons!
