This captivating knitting pattern is inspired by the ancient Latvian fascination with the celestial bodies, particularly the Sun and Moon. In Latvian folklore and culture, they hold profound significance, symbolising light and guidance and cycles of life, renewal, and harmony with nature.

The collar is worked seamlessly from the top down, initially flat, before being joined in the round with steeks on each side. The colourwork motif mirrors the front and back, creating a unified design.

SIZES: One size

Finished Shoulder to Shoulder: 39.5 cm / 15½”

YARN: Worsted weight yarn. Depending on the length of the collar, allow approximately:

  • MC: 520 m 570 yds

Sakura means “cherry blossom” in Japanese, it is a name that has an important symbolic component for Japanese culture, it represents the cycle of life, prosperity and ephemeral beauty. FOs and WIPs

I started with a sleeve when I finished the cake of yarn on the body.

Instead of continuing the body, I started with a sleeve when I finished the cake of yarn on the body on my Renaissance Sweater by Elenor Mortensen. I will continue the body after I finish the sleeves so that I can knit the length to use the remainder of my black yarn.

I picked up 15 stitches under the arm for the sleeves with 7 stitches on one side and 8 on the other to finish the repeat on both sides for my size. I prefer finished repeats instead of incomplete repeats with a fake seam stitch in the middle.

I have all 46 granny squares finished and I have started the 14 half squares for my Ariana!

I have all 46 granny squares finished and I have started the 14 half squares for my Ariana by Amy Christoffers! Considering I haven't crocheted in over 40 years except for finishing techniques, this has been fun and a lot less painful than in the past. Back then, I couldn't crochet more than a few inches before my arm and hand would go numb. I had carpal tunnel brought on by my pregnancy with my first child. I've had the surgeries so I guess that is part of why I can crochet again...Who knew?
