Free Pattern Fridays - Friday, July 21, 2017: Another Hot Summer Medley...

Sweet, sweet but hot and muggy summer days...Do they inspire light, summer knitting projects or do they inspire you to start your fall / winter wardrobe?

Afetos y Cartucha Knits

Afetos by Cartucha Knits is an asymmetrical garter and lace shawl using 2 colors of fingering weight yarn such Malabrigo Sock - 2 skeins of your main color and 1 skein of a contrast color. The wingspan is 70" along top edge and 17“ deep.

Rye by tincanknits

Rye by tincanknits is a part of tincanknits The Simple Collection, a learn to knit series with 8 excellent free patterns and clear tutorials. These are top-down socks knit in a worsted/aran weight yarn and includes the sizing for baby up to an adult large.

snowwhitemama's Mistletoes

SnowWhiteMama's Mistletoes was Debbie B. Chase"s creative use of the pattern (Rye) for her Christmas socks for her family in 2015. I even love the pics that she took for her Ravelry series!

ZickZack Scarf

ZickZack Scarf by Christie Kamm is an impressive yet easy to knit scarf in the style of a great Italian designer. The chevrons are worked with single increases and decreases – no knots in your fingers trying to knit complicated double decreases and no double increases where the stitches get tight and hard to work with…The suggested yarn is Mille Colori Baby in 2 colors, 2 balls of each or any self-striping fingering weight / sock yarn where the color changes are not too slow.

Summer Commitment by Espace Tricot

Something a little different - a knit summer bag! Summer Commitment by Espace Tricot (Lisa Di Fruscia) is the perfect bag for strolling around town, going to market, or a day at the beach! The bottom is knit flat and then stitches are picked up for knitting the main body in the round. Straps are then knit flat one at a time and are joined using Kitchener stitch. If you wish to knit a cross-body style bag then an extra skein of yarn will be required. It was designed to be knit with Filatura di Crosa Kilim, 65% jute and 35% acrylic so that the bag is sturdy but still easy to wear!

WIPS

Sue2Knits ASJ WIP

My third ASJ is moving along - I just finished the ball of Noro Silk Garden I was using. It really went far! For the photo, it really would have been better to finish the row so that I could flatten the fronts but well then I'd have to grab and start that second ball of Silk Garden!

River Ripples

I hadn't intended to make this project since I have so many other projects that I want to make but there you are - life never goes as planned! The is River Ripples by Yumiko Alexander and I am using one of the suggested yarns - Hikoo by Skacel's Rylie in Sandbar.

KNIT GROUP AND GALLERY

The Wednesday afternoon Knit Group is getting a little large so I have decided to add a Tuesday to the mix! So Tuesdays and Wednesday afternoons from 2:30 to 4:30 and Thursday nights from 7:00 to 9:00. I hope everyone continues to come out on the day they already come and new players can come Tuesdays! These are free and is a great way to knit socially and have some fun! There is no instruction but usually I am available (or often one of you) to help if help is needed.

I haven't planned any classes for awhile but if there is ever something you are interested in, please let me now! Brioche is something I have done very little of but could be something, we could learn together with a planned Knit-Along!

Also, since I brought in Northbound Knitting's Merino/Silk Fingering, several of you have suggested a Knit-Along using that yarn but wanted pattern suggestions. I thought it would be fitting to look at one of Lisa Mutch, the brains behind NBK's patterns. 5 that I thought you might try to choose from are: Aile, Augury, Asunder, Amidst or Smite. What do you think?

Mattedcat_MoonlightWIP

Mattedcat's Moonlight - - Spotlight by Janina Kallio is the project our Lise is knitting with the skein of Zen Yarn Garden Serenity 20 that she won in the last draw! She chose Tuxedo and she bought Silver Moon to pair with it!

Sue2Knits Baby Sophisticate

Landon (8 months) and Lennox (7 months) wearing the same Baby Sophisticate that I knit in April of 2014 for Lennox's big brother Griffin. Griffin was a year old in the photo at the playground!

Happy Friday and Happy Knitting!!

  1. Lise Lise

Great free pattern choices, once again. I have the Rye socks on my list and the shawl is certainly one to consider. I love the ZickZack scarf and now that you have the Mille Colori Baby, I may have to knit another one!
