Friday, July 16, 2022, Issue 256: Happy Friday!

How are you enjoying your summer so far? Are you enjoying car rides, trips to visit family, walks under clear blue skies and knitting outdoors in the sunshine?

Tops and tees are my favourite kind of knit but there are so many more beautiful patterns to choose from!

A Study in Pink by Melanie Berg is a lovely lace shirt or sweater worked seamlessly from the top down with a touch of lace at the yoke and the hem.

The socks are worked top down using 2 colours (or more!) of yarn. Self striping yarn is so good with a solid in this pattern.

Sue (Suemccord) test knit the socks a self- striping yarn as her CC1!

I finished my Pink is for Power by Melanie Berg!

I finished my Pink is for Power by Melanie Berg! I used 2.75 mm needles because I am a loose knitter. I cast on for the size 2 thinking I would get the size 3 since my gauge was bigger at 25 stitches instead of 26 stitches to 4 inches. Ancient Arts Socknado is Superwash but it didn’t grow at all. The unblocked and blocked measurements are almost the same.

As you can see I did not knit long sleeves on mine but kept them short!

As you can see I did not knit long sleeves on mine but kept them short! After finished the hem ribbing, I had 59g of Socknado and 5g of Silkpaca. Originally, I thought I wouldn’t have enough Silkpaca left to work a finish to the sleeves but since I still had some left, I picked up 94 stitches. I worked 8 rounds of stockinette and 8 rounds of twisted rib, binding off on the 9th round.

One side has 8 rounds of stockinette followed by 8 rounds of twisted rib while the other side has just the 8 rounds of twisted rib after I frogged the stockinette rounds.

I picked up 94 on the other sleeve but on round 8 of stockinette, realized I wouldn’t have enough to work the matching ribbing! I frogged the stockinette back to the pick up round, worked 8 rounds of twisted rib and bound off. I then frogged the other sleeve back to the pick up round and worked the matching twisted rib. The above photo shows where I still had both sleeves before frogging the second sleeve to match!

In the end, I remembered that I still had my swatch that I could have used!

I love the lace even though blocking didn’t change it at all.

Also off my needles is my third adult sized Ranunculus by Midori Hirose!

Also off my needles is my third adult sized Ranunculus by Midori Hirose! I knit the original size (3) on my first two but decided to knit a size 2 for this one using 5.0 mm (US 8) for my main needles. I used 4.0 mm (US 6) for the sleeve and bottom twisted rib.

I finished sewing in the ends this morning and I am wearing it even though it hasn’t been blocked yet!

I finished sewing in the ends this morning and I am wearing it even though it hasn’t been blocked yet! The body I knit to 7 inches with 3 inches of twisted rib. The sleeves are 15 rounds of stockinette and 9 rounds of twisted rib before binding off on round 10.

Pre-Order ChiaoGoo’s newest Special Edition set coming this Fall 2022! ChiaoGoo’s newest Special Edition interchangeable set, Forté, includes tips that are an elegant combination of sleek, stainless steel and luxurious, African Blackwood. This limited-edition exclusive set also boasts new SWIV360 interchangeable cables. Silver in color, the cables have the same properties as the much-loved red and blue TWIST cables PLUS an added swivel feature! No more fighting with tangled cables - knitters have been hoping for this for years!

The Forté set includes 14 pairs of 5” (13 cm) tips US2 – 15 (2.75 – 10 mm). Each threaded steel join is laser etched with the tip diameter and join size which will not wear off ever. The set comes with six memory-free SWIV360 cables, steel scissors, a measuring tape, end stoppers, stitch markers, darning needles, a swatch/needle gauge and much more! Plus, all Forté parts and pieces have [S] or [L] size joins so they are switchable with all other similarly coded ChiaoGoo interchangeable parts.

Made of REACH compliant man-made material, the Forté case is just as elegant and functional as the tips and cables. It includes a double-sided, removable needle board that firmly houses all tips; elastic that securely holds but gives easy access to accessories; and four pockets to hold the rest of your knitting supplies including a spot for your pattern or notes. And, true to other ChiaoGoo cases, it opens book-style with a full zipper enclosure to ensure that nothing falls out. A beautiful addition to any makers tool kit, the Forté Set was thoughtfully created with the serious knitter in mind.

These are a special edition product. Our distributer has a limited number coming this Fall.
