Friday, July 2, 2021, Issue 205: Happy Friday!

We have had scorching hot weather all over the country and while I wouldn't say I'd be wearing a shawl outside but they are handy to have available to throw on in an air conditioned car, grocery shopping or whenever it gets a little chilly!

The Skagen Shawl by Paula Emons-Fuessle is an eye-catching asymmetrical triangle shawl of garter stitch and simple eyelets knit in Berroco Remix Light.

Justyna’s third Close to You shawl is knit using Malabrigo Mechita.

Close to You by Justyna Lorkowska is a Free Ravelry download pattern designed to use just one skein (or more, it’s easy to adjust) of any gorgeous handpainted yarn to make a shawlette for someone who’s close to you too!

This simple but stylish shawl is knitted from one end with gradual increases to form a triangular shawl which is fun to knit and easy to wear. The zigzag border with eyelets gives it a nice touch and makes the knitting interesting.

Size
One: approx. 166cm/65.25” wide and 38 cm/15” long at center spine.

Yarn
1 skein of any fingering weight yarn.

Needles
4.0 mm (US #6) circular needle (80 cm/32” long).

Other
1 stitch marker, tapestry needle for weaving.

Gauge
17 sts and 44 rows = 10 cm/4” in Garter st measured flat after wet blocking.
The gauge isn’t crucial on this project, but differences will affect the finished size as well as the required yardage.

The Tarla Shawl by Catherine Salter Bayar is a right angle triangular reversible shawl knit using 2 skeins of Urth Yarns Uneek Cotton.

The Tarla Shawl by Catherine Salter Bayar is a free Ravelry download until July 7th, 2021. A garter stitch eyelet leaf lace runs along one side, as this right angle triangular scarf grows 1 stitch each row along the other. “Tarla” means “field” in Turkish, so envision a tract of seed stitch working into a hedgerow of garter stitch, then replanted by a plot of 1x1 vertical rib bounded again by garter stitch. These fields alternate positions to complete this reversible 2-skein project.

Materials: 2 skeins, Urth Uneek Cotton DK

Dimensions: 24.5”/ 62 cm wingspan 33”/ 84 cm at widest point, 44”/ 112 cm on the diagonal.

Needles: US 6 / 4 mm

Gauge: 22 sts x 32 = 4”/10 cm in Stockinette St. Gauge is not crucial.

I decided to continue the sleeve firework detail down to the cuff. One more sleeve to finish! I can't wait to block this to open up the stitches!
