Friday, July 29, 2022, Issue 258: Lazy summer days...Happy Friday!

Can you believe it? It is almost the end of July and this is the August 1 Civic Holiday long weekend! Are you planning a mini getaway or are you staying put?

Are you looking for a great stash busting project? Check out the Garter Marler Cardigan by Stephen West!

This garter stitch cardigan is designed to showcase all of your fingering weight yarn. Hold two strands together throughout the entire project for the ultimate stash buster. The top-down construction makes the cardigan easy to try on and customize the length as you knit. This pattern is very easy to knit with simple garter stitch and ribbed edges. Dive into your stash and paint with your yarns to create the coziest scrappy cardigan.

Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9)

Finished Measurements: 36 (41, 45, 47, 52) (57, 60, 64, 67)″ / 91 (104, 114, 119, 132) (145, 152, 163, 170)cm finished chest circumference. Measurements taken after blocking.

The sample is shown in size 4 with about 3″ / 8cm of positive ease.

The yoke depth, sleeve length, and body lengths are customizable.

YARN: Fingering weight held double

The marled fabric holding two strands of fingering weight together results in a DK weight gauge

YARDAGE: Approximately 1900 (2100, 2600, 3100, 3600) (4100, 4600, 5100, 5600)yds / 1737 (1920, 2377, 2835, 3292) (3749, 4206, 4663, 5121)m total

These yardage estimations are overestimated a bit, so you should have more than enough yarn to complete your sweater. I recommend getting a big pile of yarn so you have more than enough color choices to work with as you knit.

The yardage estimations are for the total yarn amount using fingering weight held double.

NEEDLES: US 6 / 4mm circular in 40″ / 100cm length or 1 size smaller than the larger main needle

US 7 / 4.5mm circular in 40″ / 100cm length or size needed to obtain gauge

NOTIONS: 1 stitch marker, tapestry needle, waste yarn, ten 1″ / 2.5cm buttons, 10 split ring markers

GAUGE: 20 sts & 38 rows = 4″ / 10cm in garter stitch after blocking using larger needles

SUGGESTED YARN (if you are not stash diving):  Koigu Festive 25 Day Kit (2,175 yards total)

Andrea Mowry’s 5th annual Rhinebeck sweater - Alpenglow! This sweater is like a charcuterie board, with a little bit of everything to satisfy your knitty appetite! Stranded colorwork, mosaic knitting, corrugated ribbing and more.

Andrea Mowry’s 5th annual Rhinebeck sweater - Alpenglow! This sweater is like a charcuterie board, with a little bit of everything to satisfy your knitty appetite! Stranded colorwork, mosaic knitting, corrugated ribbing and more.

This sweater is knit from the top down (meaning you can try it on as you go and add length to suit your own personal style!), beginning with the yoke. The circular yoke is adorned with a stranded colorwork motif, and then you switch to mosaic knitting that is continued thru the body and sleeves. You will separate the sleeves, placing them on hold while the body is finished all the way down to the corrugated ribbing hem. The sleeves are then returned to the needles, picking up stitches for the underarm and worked down to the cuff. The collar is picked up from the cast on edge and worked long enough to be doubled over for a hemmed collar.

WIPs and FOs

On Wednesday, I started binding off my Sommerknus!

On Wednesday, I started binding off my Sommerknus by Elsebeth judith. Sommerknus which translates to Summer Hug is a round yoke sweater worked from the top down. I added one extra Set 1 from page 3 to my length. I chose to work my hem ribbing in 2 x 2 rib for 12 rounds before binding off with my go-to loose bind off.

Just a few more rounds left of my second sleeve and I will be finished except for weaving in the ends.

I should be casting off tonight! I have just a few more rounds left of my second sleeve and I will be finished except for weaving in the ends. I started out with seven balls of Sandnes Garn Line in 2331 Light Beige. Five balls were not quite enough and I had to break into a sixth for the sleeve ribbing.
