Wednesday, January 10, 2024, Issue 329: Happy Wednesday!!

What do you think of all the grey, windy and wet weather that we have been having? It doesn't feel like winer but it sure makes me want to stay in and knit!

Do you feel like casting on a small project or a larger one? I personally don't like any more than two projects at any one time. Others like multiple projects on their needles with a pair of socks too.

Don’t Ask by Isabell Kraemer is another of her patterns that I want to knit.

Don’t Ask by Isabell Kraemer is one of her patterns that I want to knit some day!

don’t ask is worked seamlessly from the top down. The yoke is shaped by using a modified version of the contiguous set-in sleeves method developed by Susie Myers. When the yoke shaping is complete, the sleeve stitches are placed on hold and the underarm stitches are cast on using your preferred method. Then the body is worked back and forth to the ribbing (instructions for optional pockets are provided). Button bands and neck finishing are worked next. Then the sleeve stitches are picked up again to work them in rounds top down to the cuffs.

Yarn
DK weight yarn (273 yards (250 m)/100g together with
DROPS Kid-Silk (230 yards (210 m)/25g)

approximately
985 (1089, 1176, 1265, 1357)(1477, 1612, 1685, 1778) yds

Needles
US 4 (3.5 mm) 32” (80 cm) circular needle and DPNs (or longer circular needle for magic loop) for neck, button bands, body and sleeve ribbing.
US 6 (4 mm) 32” (80 cm) circular needle and DPNs (or longer circular needle for magic loop) for body and sleeves.

Gauge
20 sts x 27 rows = 4” (10 cm) square in Stockinette stitch on larger needle after blocking.
Note: Row gauge is important! Armhole length is determined by the number of rows worked from shoulder to sleeve separation. Please take the time to check both stitch and row gauge.

The Sunday Feeling Socks by Stone Knits can be knit in your two favourite colours with its simple and easily memorized stitch pattern.

The Sunday Feeling Socks by Stone Knits can be knit in your two favourite colours with its simple and easily memorized stitch pattern.

These socks are knit from the cuff down with a twisted rib cuff and have a simple striping, slipped stitch pattern which runs down the leg and foot of the sock. There is a twisted rib heel-flap and gusset to match the cuff. There is only one colour knit in each round. This pattern uses the magic loop circular needle method (but can be knit with dpns).

The stitch pattern for this sock is both written out and charted for this pattern.

Gauge: 32sts x 40 rnds per 10cm / 4”

Needles Required: 2.25mm (US 1) circular needles for knitting magic loop (or whatever size gives you gauge).

Yarn:
Approximately 310m (339yds) in total. Sample shown is knit in size 3 for foot length Europe 39, US 8, UK 6, (24cm circumference foot) using:

  • Main Colour: 185m / 202yds, approx. 50g
  • Contrast Colour: 62m / 68dys, approx. 20g

The OLE Hat by Susanne Muller is the perfect beanie that is designed so that the cuff has the same pattern when folded up.

The OLE Hat by Susanne Müller is knitted from bottom to top in the round on a short circular needle, only the cast on and decreases are worked on double pointed needles. First, the cuff is knitted in the half rib pattern with left rib stitches, then the body is knitted “mirror-inverted” in the half rib pattern with right rib stitches. This results in the same pattern on the front when the cuff is folded over. The decreases for the top of the hat are worked as double decreases with a right and left inclination. For this hat it is recommended to use a yarn that is somewhat elastic, otherwise the half-pattern pattern tends to 'wear out'. Pure cotton or pure alpaca, for example, are not so suitable.

Techniques used: Italian stitch cast on, half rib, single and double decreases with left and right inclination. All techniques used are explained directly in the instructions or with the help of links to tutorials.

Size
head circumference: 46 - 49 (50 - 53) 54 -57 (58 - 61)

Stitch sample
half-patent with needle 3.0 mm: 22-23 sts x 52-54 rows = 10 x 10 cm (measured washed and unstretched)
If necessary, choose a different needle size to adjust the stitch samples.

Needles
Circular knitting needle 3.0 mm (50-60 cm)
Needle set 3.0 mm (20 cm)
If you work with the 'Magic Loop method', you will need a long circular knitting needle 3.0 mm (80 - 100 cm)

Yarn
200 (300) 300 (300) m / 220 (330) 330 (330) yds (DK)
or Two Yarns held together:
200 (400) 400 (400) m / 220 (440) 440 (440) yds of fingering together with
200 (400) 400 (400) m / 220 (440) 440 (440) yds of mohair

Sending OLE are classic mittens designed to match the OLE Hat.

The Sending OLE by Susanne Müller are classic mittens designed to match the OLE Hat. They are knit in English rib with yarn overs from bottom to top. To ensure that the half patent pattern does not have too many holes, a relatively thin needle size of 3.0 mm is used. After the cuff, a thumb wedge is worked in with the help of increases inclined to the left or right. This ensures a good fit and enough room for movement. The tip of the gloves is formed with double decreases inclined to the left and right.

Schedule (I am late!!)
The first clue will be launching on the 3rd of January
the second will come on the 9th of January,
The third will be released on the 17th of January,
finally, the 7th of February is when we’ll share the last clue and the full pattern.

Yarn
It uses a Sport weight yarn, and high contrast is strongly recommended as the colourwork is quite intricate.
Select a solid, neutral main colour and a vibrant contrasting colour that can change throughout. It’s essential to ensure a consistent contrast between the main colour and the colour-changing yarn. Avoid sections with minimal contrast, which may give the yoke an erased appearance. By doing so, you’ll achieve a captivating and visually appealing result.

Gauge: 28 sts & 34 rows = 10 cm / 4” in Stockinette stitch and colourwork in the round, blocked. You can use any stranded colourwork or fairisle pattern for the swatch.

Suggested needles:

2.75 mm (US 2) circulars 60-100 cm / 24-40” long and/or DPNs for small circumference knitting
2.25 mm (US 1) circulars 60 cm / 24” long

The Yardage:
Main colour (MC):
1055 (1155, 1255, 1375, 1485, 1590, 1710, 1830, 1930) m
1155 (1265, 1370, 1500, 1625, 1740, 1870, 2000, 2115) yds

Contrast colour (CC):
330 (350, 390, 410, 445, 470, 520, 545, 575) m
365 (385, 425, 445, 490, 515, 565, 600, 625) yds
Notions: Stitch markers, locking stitch markers, row counter, stitch holder, tapestry needle.

Suggested Yarn: Kelbourne Woolens Andorra or Cascade 220 Sport for the MC; Queensland Collection Rainbow Beach for CC.

My Growing by Lone Kjeldsen looks so different in person and those open, unfinished pockets doesn’t help…

The truth is that I have been in the midst of doing inventory and i have not had much knitting time. It is such a big job every year that I do not enjoy. My Growing by Lone Kjeldsen looks so different in person and those open, unfinished pockets doesn’t help with the look!

 The back looks great though!

The back looks great though! It isn't the short version but it also isn't as long as the long version either since I am just under 5 feet tall! Mine is 23.5 inches from the underarms with 8 more rows of ribbing to go. I wanted the length to be about inch shorter and not longer than my skirts.
