Favourite Patterns Friday, March 15, 2019, Issue 92: Are you winter knitting or spring knitting?

I am definitely still winter knitting - especially with the cold and wet week that we have had!

Cowls, hats and shawls are still just the things to make like the Crystalline Cowl by Jane Vanselous!

Crystalline Cowl by Jane Vanselous

This cowl is definitely a winner using just one skein of the wonderfully squishy Malabrigo Mecha using 8 mm (US 11) needles for a gauge of 8 stitches and 10 rows = 2 inches in crossed stitch.

JChan8 knit hers using colour 33 Ceriza - what a beautiful colour! An interesting stitch that results in great texture.

Jason’s Cashmere Hat by Melissa Thomson

Jason’s Cashmere Hat by Melissa Thomson is a beanie with a simple cable design for extra warmth, firm ribbing to help keep its shape, and a thick, folded brim that can be adjusted to cover the ears on extra chilly days. The hat needs 200 yards of worsted or aran weight yarn, 4 mm (US 6) and 5 mm (US 8) needles for a gauge of 12 stitches and 7 rows = 2 inches by 1 inch in the cable pattern, using the larger needles. The ribbing gauge is 20 stitches per 4 inches in rib pattern (unstretched), using the smaller needles. The finished hat will fit an adult head 22-24 inches in circumference with a finished length of 11 inches with an unfolded brim and 8.5 inches with a folded brim. Knit it with Malabrigo Rios, Zen Yarn Garden's Serenity Worsted, or Berroco Ultra Alpaca.

Jana by Annika Andrea Wolke

Jana by Annika Andrea Wolke is from Fall With SweetGeorgia, Vol. 4, a crescent shawl that features a striking stitch pattern. The easy-to-remember repeat, paired with garter stitch and short-row shaping, makes for a captivating project. 426 yards (390 m) of DK weight yarn and 4 mm (US 6) needles for a gauge of 22 stitches and 30 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette stitch, blocked are needed to create this one! The finished shawl is 58 ¼“ (148 cm) wide, 7 ¼” (18.5 cm) deep at side edge, and 13 ¼“ (33.5 cm) deep at centre. Knit it using SweetGeorgia Superwash DK, Madelinetosh DK, Malabrigo Arroyo or Drops Kid Silk held double with Drops Flora!

Another earlier progress shot of my Cedar Point pullover by Espace Tricot

Here is a progress shot of my Cedar Point pullover by Espace Tricot from earlier in the week with one sleeve completed. Before I started this one, I wasn't sure which one to cast on! I really want this one but I also still want a Turtle Dove for myself too! The last one that I knit was for my mom!

EVENTS

Berroco Yarn Tasting Event - Saturday, March 16, 2019 - 6:30 pm - 10 pm

Reminder of the Berroco Yarn Tasting Event is tomorrow night - Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 6:30 pm - 10 pm! Bring 6 mm needles that are 40 inches long for the scarf or a mixture of needle sizes for swatches. I had capped it at 14 but it turns out Berroco had given me a tasting kit already so I have one more spot left! It will be a bit crowded but we will have fun!

Happy Friday, Happy Knitting, Crocheting and Crafting!
