Friday, September 29, 2023, Issue 315: It's fall and it's sweater weather...Happy Friday!

It really has started feeling seasonally cold and crisp outside! Are you in the fall knitting mood yet? Have you cast on a sweater or cardigan, a cozy shawl or a pair of warm socks?

Sabela by Isabell Kraemer has an effortless, modern and straight shape, some ease and, of course, stripes! which are my favourite way of adding colour to a garment. She knit it showing a short sleeved version, a long sleeved version and in the above photo, showing one short and one long sleeve! This is a sweater that can span the seasons.

Sabela is worked seamlessly in rounds from the top down. First some short rows are worked back and forth to shape the neck. The yoke is shaped by using a modified version of the contiguous set-in sleeves method developed by Susie Myers. When the yoke shaping is complete, the sleeve stitches are placed on hold and underarm stitches are cast on. The body is then worked in rounds to the hem. The sleeve stitches are then picked up again to work them in rounds top down to the cuffs (instructions for both short and long sleeves are provided). Neck is left unfinished.

Mastiha by Thea Colman is a beautiful new cardigan pattern with a geometric and dramatic motif.

I love a good cardigan and Mastiha by Thea Colman is a beautiful cardigan with a geometric and dramatic motif. She wanted the motif to be crisp and distinct, but not overwhelming -- since this would be worn with everything in her wardrobe.

Mastiha is knit flat, from the bottom up. The sweater is split into three pieces at armhole and they are then worked separately to shoulders. At shoulders, the front edge stitches continue to be worked in a strip to meet at center back neck.

Shoulders and these edge stitches are seamed to finish the body before sleeve stitches are picked up along armholes and worked in the round to cuff. Button band is picked up along front opening and worked flat to end.

Cables are both charted and written.

SIZES:
36.25 (40.25,44.25,48.25,52.25)(56.25,60.25,64.25,68.25)” 92(102.25,112.5,122.5,132.75)(143,153,163.25,173.25) cm
Size reflects circumference around body, worn closed and is based on final, blocked fabric. Sweater shown worn with 5”/12.75cm of positive ease.

YARDAGE PER SIZE:
1000 (1150,1250,1350,1450)(1600,1700,1750,1800) yds 915 (1060,1145,1235,1325)(1465,1555,1600,1695)m

Worsted-weight yarn needed. Yardage reflects bracelet-length sleeves and body length given in pattern. If modifying, adjust quantity as needed.
