The Largest Knitter Run Event in the World

WWKIP Day 2019 is June 8th! Go Public, Go Social...Go Knitting in Public Yeah! From 10 until 4 pm

WWKIPDAY is unique, in that it’s the largest knitter run event in the world. Each local event is put together by a volunteer or a group of volunteers. They each organize an event because they want to, not because they have to. They bring their own fresh ideas into planning where the event should be held, and what people would like to do. If it weren’t for these volunteer hosts, WWKiP Day would still just be an idea. So when you go to your local event, make sure you thank your host(s) and if you’re inclined, bring along some yummy treats to share.

In the past some people have used this event as a means to show the general public that “not only grannies knit” and while that’s great and all, keep in mind that without those grannies’ we wouldn’t have the wealth of knitting knowledge that we do.

WWKIPDAY is really about showing the general public that knitting can be a community activity in a very distinct way. In some places there are many different knitting groups that never interact with each other, on WWKiP Day they come together in one place, making them hard to miss.

This Saturday we will be hosting our annual World Wide Knit in Public Day from 10am until 5pm. World Wide Knit in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes. It began as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other’s company. Knitting is such a solitary act that it’s easy to knit alone somewhere and sink into your work without thinking about all the other knitters out there. Neighbors could spend all their lives never knowing that the other knits. This a specific day to get out of your house and go to a local event (with your knitting in tow) just for you and people like you. Who knows you might even bump into your neighbor! Consider this a spark, to ignite a fire; getting all of the closeted knitters out into fresh air.

WHAT TO BRING:
Any project to work on. I will have coffee, tea, water and some goodies. Bring a chair in case I don't have enough but sunglasses and something in case it gets breezy! If it rains, we will move it inside the shop or we have used the garage in the past which was much cooler than in the sun but we can sit out in the gazebo if it gets too hot!

We will be offering 10% off your purchases in-store and online (no code needed) as well as a draw for a door prize and more!

There are always new patterns...there are so many, many talented designers! For the summer, I like knitting summer tops at least until mid-July when I want to start my fall projects! Have you started your summer knit top yet?

 Sabai Top by Susanne Muller

The Sabai Top by Susanne Müller is a light and airy summer top with a boat neckline. It is super easy to knit, requires only a few techniques and is therefore ideal for beginners. In addition to the SABAI Top No. 1 with ribbed borders, there is also a second, completely in stockinette stitch, knit version - the SABAI Top No. 2.

 Sabai Top by Susanne Muller

The SABAI Top No. 1 is worked seamlessly top down. First, the neckline border is worked in the round in a 1/1 rib stitch pattern and increases are worked for the slanted shoulders. For the armholes, front and back parts are worked separately back and forth. The stitches of front and back are then joined and worked in the round again. The top ends with a narrow ribbed border with a rolled edge. As the top is knitted from the top down, it is possible (and advisable) to try it on while knitting so that the length can be individually adjusted.

SIZES
XS (S) M (L) XL (XXL)

To fit chest circumference:
74-81 (82-89) 90-97 (98-107) 108-117 (118-127) cm / 30-32
(33-35) 36-38 (38-42) 43-46 (47-50)”

MEASUREMENTS

21 (22) 22 (23) 24 (25) cm / 8.3 (8.7) 8.7 (9.1) 9.5 (9.8)”

FOs and WIPs

I frogged the front bands and re-knit them!

Last week I finished my Ariana by Amy Christoffers but after seeing my photos did not like the front bands and wished I had put in more buttonholes. I said that I would probably undo the bind off and frog back to redo the buttonholes and as you can see I did!

The re-knit front band is so much better

I frogged back to the picked up row on the button band using 3.5 mm needles instead of 3.75 mm because the previous button band seemed really loose. This time instead of the [p2tog, yo, work 10 sts in rib], I worked 3 stitch, 1 row buttonholes with 9 stitches in between for 5 buttonholes. I bound off using 3.75 mm needle but decided the bind off was too tight. I pulled back and redid the bind off using Lucy Neatby's modified conventional bind off for a looser but not too loose bind off.

I frogged the front bands and re-knit them!

Now I am happy with my finished crocheted and knit Ariana!
